HELP: movies not playing when set to VMR9 (1 Viewer)

hi guys,
i recently installed MP RC2 and recognized that none of movies (i have divx/xvid and mkv files) wont run in MP when setting VMR9. When I switch to EVR though everything works again. But EVR looks horrible as there some horizontal bars occurring on the screen (common problem apparently). When i switched back to VMR9 none of my movies played when selecting them in MP.
also used my backup of RC1 which was working with VMR9 and this does not work either.

any advice?

Disable exclusive mode under the vmr9 settings, this should resolve.

nope, it did not

now here is a funny thing:
i switched back to my catalyst drivers 8.6. et voila, everything is working again.

is there any explanation for that?
