Hi!

First of all my i say that i'm not even sure that this is a Media Portal issue....

I using RealTek HD audio drivers and i've been going round in circles for weeks trying to get dolby digital 5.1 / DTS out into my amp (I using a digital coaxial output).

I've been into control panel and update the sound properties to output to 5.1, but everything is still coming out in 2.0.

Is this to do with SPDIF or codecs (please be gentle as i know nothing with regards to these!)?

Thanks in advance.....

Someone did a really good tutorial on this a couple of weeks ago, meant to bookmark it, didn't, now regret it as seen a couple of posts asking for help.

going to search for "spdif 5.1 dts", so if you fancy doing the same :), remember it is only the last 2-3 weeks only.

    Thanks Paranoid.

I do do a search before (hey, i'm not THAT lazy), but didn't return anything appropriate.

I've just done a search for spdif 5.1 dts, spdif digital, and spdif stereo only but still can't find what you're suggesting......?

If you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks I'll be getting into this too. HTPC is currently in a temp. location with sound over HDMI to the TV. HOPEFULLY in the the next 2 weeks the extension will be at a stage where I can move it and the amp to their new location and connect them up. I also have Realtek HD but I'll be using AV though, not optical.

An alternative to ac3filter is to try ffdshow. When configuring it, enable the "Mixer" and select S/PDIF passthrough for AC3 and DTS. I had trouble getting the default audio filter to output correctly to S/PDIF.

Got ffdshow installed, and mixer enabled, but can't see anywhere how to set the SPDIF passthru?

I've just installed AC3filter and got my 5.1 digital sound back - however i'm now having problems playing back some files. They're displaying as MP3 2.0 audio in the information bar on MyTVseries, but there's no sound for these whatsoever (all the other files seem to play fine so far, but still testing).

AC3 config\system is mpeg audio enabled.

That's from memory, so might be wrong.

    Already is. :(

Plus now i've got a new issue with xvidcore.dll not being found (system has just crashed on me!)

BTW - In one of your previous posts you sent a link about which codecs to run. Don't suppose you have that link handy, as i've earched but an't find it anywhere...

There's an "Output" sub-menu underneath the mixer.
