Media Portal worked fine on my machine for a while then all of the sudden I just get this Media portal has encountered an error and needs to close. I tried to download and reinstall but it got stuck on the Visual C++ install. I dont think anything on the machine has changed.

This same thing happend to me.
Try opening 'MediaPortal Configuration' go to >television and under settings change your audio and video decoders to something else, from then on it started ok for me, then i could change the decoders back to what I wanted.

I'm not sure WHY this would fix it but it did for me, let us know if it works for you too.(I guess it could have been something else I did

)

For some reason it reistalled this time just fine. I am not sure what I did different. I did have to go and change the audio codec inorder for it to work. Now I am faced with a different challenge is there any way to restore all my old settings I.E. movie titles and cover art. I did not tell it to delete my user info when I uninstalled. Is there a way to back up this info if this were to happen again?

thanks dustin
