Help required for Red-eye Blasting of STB (1 Viewer)

Apologies this is not more detailed but I'm not at my machine at the time of writing.

To more fully explain I'm based in the UK and have a Virgin Media STB. The model is Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4200DVB and I know this has 2 problems, that it uses IRDA and that it requires 3 codes for every key press (see Redeye FAQs).

Plowing ahead I went and bought the RedEye Translator and this works perfectly within MediaCentre using the MCE remote. I simply followed the RedEye setup instructions and MediaCentre now has no problems changing the channel. However like most people here I want to use MediaPortal because I want its extra features and flexibility.

However this is where I have hit a brick wall. Initially I assumed that if MediaCentre using the MCE Blaster could change the channel simply enabling it in MediaPortal would do the trick. In desperation I went out and bought the Redeye serial as well, and I have round that using the Redeyedemo.exe I have no problems changing the channel, but again with Redeye enabled in MediaPortal it does not work. I then moved to trying the MCE Replacement Plugin but a mix of my own ineptitude and possibly the IRDA issue means I'm still stuck.

Getting MediaPortal to change the channel on my STB using the MCE Remote is the very last step in me achieving HTPC perfection (ish!), and what's more galling is I think others have managed it (see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-support-51/serial-red-eye-pace-stbs-11491/) so I'm sure it's just me . But I'm flailing like a fish out of water so would be really grateful if someone could help me on this.

Ah nuts! Was hoping someone could help. I'll continue to keep searching the forum but if anyone can point me to posts that would be of use, or where I can find more detail on using RedEye serial in MediaPortal it'd make my day.

At this rate looks like I'm going to have to stick with MediaCentre and it's pain in the arse My Movies plugin!

Don't bother folks. I installed MediaPortal RC1 last night to see if that made any difference, but didn't bother looking as I found MP was now just too slow.

Don't know what has changed between 0.2.3.0 and RC1, but I found RC1's speed was slower and as my system isn't exactly a behemoth it's kind of put the kibosh on things.

Therefore I'm hitting the green button and just going with MediaCenter for now, though all the best with MP!

This issue has been fixed. Use latest SVN. (New SVN every friday).

If you give mediaportal another chance then also try out the IR Server Suite, I've got Serial Eye support in it but it hasn't been tested.

Thanks for the heads up Spragleknas. And your right, I was hoping and-81 would drop in but thought it was rude to ask directly for him!

I'm going to have to re-set up MP and then I can try the IR Server suite as suggested, however I won't be able to do this until the weekend and then I can report back.

Unfortunately the 'wife' has decided I've had to many late nights this week and is getting jealous of the PC.

Just to say thanks for looking in but for now I will not be continuing with Mediaportal. Functions like MP TV series and My Movies sold it to me as they are blindingly good however based on the fact that I went from zero to fully setup in an afternoon on MediaCenter compared to endless evenings in MP, and that the 'wife' has been happily using it for the last few days means I will be sticking with Media Center for know.

Keep up the good work though as I will no doubt be back, and thanks for getting me started on my own HTPC!
