Help with accented words in Teletext subtitles (1 Viewer)

Hi,

sorry if that has been asked and answered before, but I've been searching in the forum for quite a while and I couldn't find this subjet.

When I choose telext subtitles all the characters that have an accent are distorted, it doesn't matter if it's Spanish, French or Italian, the three languages that I use to read.

Do I have something in MP RC3 that I didn't configure well or is that a problem that has no solution?

P.S. No need to tell that this problem doesn't occur when the subtitles are DVB

Two months later...
May be there's a simple answer for this issue.

The thing is yesterday I had an Xvid film with srt French subtitles and I had problems to read some characters (ê,ç...). So I googled and discovered a way to change the srt, that's to say txt, format from utf-8 to ISO-8859-1. Then I replayed the same film in MP with the new converted subtitles and all the characters were OK.

I'm wondering if there's a similar way with the TV teletext subtitles, applying a filter or something. I'm sure someone knows the answer.

I would appreciate very much some help.

Unfortunately, you'll get no answers from me! Just a little support as I have exactly the same problem!

When using teletext subtitle here in Belgium (french subtitles), french special characters does not display correctly!
As you suggested, it seems to be a charset problem!

Moreover, I realized that my MediaPortal client was crashing/freezing when teletext subtitles was enabled. According to what I found in the logs, it was because of a too long teletext subtitle? Sort of overflow? I recently installed the latest 1.0 version. I don't know if this behavior still exists. But does anyone had this issue before?

One other thing I have discovered:

If I rip the text subtitles from the recorded transport stream using ProjectX I get a srt file that still shows the characters incorrectly. But if I open that srt file with the notespad and I choose to save it as ANSI instead of UTF 8, then all the subtitles are wonderfully perfect.

I don't know if it is possible to make the MP recorder to record the text subtitles in ANSI codec instead of UTF 8. That would fix the issue. But I guess it's complicated or there are important reasons for not to do that.

Couldn't some expert or any MP developer elaborate a bit on this, please? I would appreciate it very much. Thank you in advance.

I updated to the last MP 1.0.1 and everything is fine. I feel very grateful towards the people who made it possible. The only thing I would like very much to be solved in the future is this issue with the subtitles that show up distorted.

Is there any way to change some configuration or something to solve that? May be I have something wrong configured, I don't know. The weird thing is that if I play that recording with subtitles with other players like VLC or DVBViewer all the accented words or special characters (like the French ç) show up perfectly.

I would like very much some tip or help.

Hi again, one month later,

I've just read in other post that there are translation tables for Danish characters in some patch or plugin for the tvserver,.

Am I missing something? I have problems to see correctly the French and Italian teletext subtitles. Are there also translation tables for these languages?

Please, I can't believe that nobody could have an answer for this issue.
