Help with my vobs please (1 Viewer)

I am pulling my hair out here!

I have setup mediaportal and have imported 2 films into moving pics. When I imported just the main movie files, IFO and VOB's, the vob's refuse to play and MP crashes. When I copy the entire disc inc extras and BUP's, it works fine (so is not a codec issue).

I need to be able to seperate the vobs for my tv series, so I can have one season with all the episode vobs on and no IFO's, but whenever I do, it just crashes when I try to play. However, the individual vob's play in KMplayer, but not in mediaplayer.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Thanks

Rob

I think your best bet is to use a program to merge the VOBs from the film (or individual TV episode) and that way you'll have one file, rather than a VIDEO_TS folder to deal with. Just be sure that you add the .vob extension under Videos in MediaPortal Configuration. I have a ridiculous amount of ripped TV episodes and I got to a point where I felt it was a PITA dealing with all the folders, so I did this.

That said, when I rip a TV DVD I rip each title separately, so it's easy to identify the right VOBs for merging.

Although my htpc runs Vista, my primary computer is a mac, so I can't recommend a windows specific program but if you have a mac in your house I highly recommend MactheRipper. Not only will it rip each episode separately but using "Title-Chapter Extraction" it will create a single VOB, therefore, requiring no merging. For DVDs I had already ripped (and didn't feel like redoing) I used a program called D-Vision 3 which merged the VOBs from the VIDEO_TS folder on my hard drive into one large VOB.

    Hope that helped.
