Hey,

I have a very weird error with trying to scan for channels. I am using a MSI Mega Sky 580 USB Stick and Windows 7.

When I first installed the drivers for the stick, I had No Signal coming up for a scan in MediaPortal in the Crystal Palace Region. I fired up Media Centre, went through that setup and found all freeview channels, after doing this I was able to go back to Media Portal and tune in the channels into the TV Server

I thought all was good but I then installed the XBMC PVR Addon, Tried watching a channel and got the "No Signal" error from within XBMC. Tried testing the channels in TVServer Setup and get the same problem. Launching Media Centre and again I'm told there's no TV Signal however leaving Media Centre on and removing and then reinserting the USB Stick gave me TV Signal Again.

This made me think the TV Card was "Locked" by another ap as it's not a dual tuner. I disabled the Media Centre service in TV Setup, still no luck. I then tried uninstalling Media Centre, this didn't help either.

So now, I've uninstalled the TV Card drivers, uninstalled Media Portal and reinstalled them both. I'm STILL getting the same issue of No Signal. This is strange because I was getting perfect signal in Media Centre beforehand.

I have attached my TV Logs, I've been working on this all day so I will be very greatful if someone can help.

Thanks,
Steve

    Hello and welcome Brummiesteve

There are no obvious problems in the log file and I see you've tried generic/DVB-T network provider and pause/stop card.

Are you certain that the frequencies that TV Server is scanning are correct?
    482 MHz
    490 MHz
    506 MHz
    514 MHz
    530 MHz
    538 MHz
    546 MHz
    554 MHz
    562 MHz
    570 MHz
    578 MHz
    586 MHz
    594 MHz

I've set it to Crystal Palace which I've checked and is the right place. I've tried the one which scans all UK frequencies and still get no signal for them all.

Considering that the UK has been going through DSO/ASO with all the associated restacking, and that MP 1.2.3 was released some time ago I think it is entirely possible that both sets of frequencies are wrong.

I would recommend confirming what the correct frequencies should be before proceeding. Does the government over there have a website listing the planned changes and when they will occur?
Maybe this site is the ticket?

Hey thanks for the reply again.

The UK Digital site confirms I am looking at the right transmitter:
This address is predicted to receive a good terrestrial TV signal from the Wonersh transmitter in the London TV region. It's a relay transmitter and it's part of the Crystal Palace transmitter group. Your local BBC news service isBBC London and London Tonight for ITV.

There are no frequencies but UKFree.tv confirms the frequencies for post switchover as:
    C23 (490.0MHz) after switchover

    C22 (482.0MHz) after switchover

    C25 (506.0MHz) after switchover
    C26 (514.0MHz) after switchover

    C28 (530.0MHz) after switchover

So it looks like TV server is at least scanning the right frequencies.

I'm thinking of buying a new TV Stick but, I also own one of these:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123#ht_4041wt_1037
Which gives me the same "no signal" error. I haven't tried it in Media Centre and assumed it was just broken as it's a cheap no-brand device from eBay. After trying my MSI Stick however, I'm starting to think differently and don't want to go and buy another TV Card if that also isn't going to work.

Well if the frequencies are correct, is it possible that the signal is simply not strong enough?
What kind of aerial are you using - if it is one of the "dinky" little ones that often come with such sticks then that could explain the problem. You'd need to find an optimal place in the house - usually on the same side of the house as the transmitter - and even then it is not guaranteed to work.

Do you not have an arial on the roof? If you do you could hook up a cable from you wall plate to your device from ebay using the adapter that came with it.

Yeah, I'm using a roof aerial.
Like I mentioned, I was able to get full perfect signal in Media Centre. At the moment the aerial is plugged into my LG TV with no issues.

I know it's not an Aerial issue as like I said, I'm using my LCD TV now with no problems. I would have simply put it down to a TV Card Issue and bought another one but the fact that I was able to tune in and watch channels using Media Centre shows that the TV Card works in some way =/

This might make no sense to you but technically the fact that the LCD TV can receive signal with no apparent problems does not mean that the USB tuner would. Tuners have different sensitivity characteristics.

Putting that aside, I have no explanation for what you're currently seeing. The only thing I can suggest is to back up the OS to an earlier restore point (hopefully you have one before installing the tuner drivers for the first time) and then go again from there with a clean slate.

That makes sense, however I was getting perfect signal with the TV Card in Media Centre anyway.

Thanks for all the help, I've decided to simply use the TVCatchup Plugin and get TV from the internet instead. I believe it may come down to a driver problem. When I have more money I'll invest in a better supported, better known TV Card.
