Hi! I am new to mediaportal. I have an Avermedia Hybrid Volar Max that I was using to watch ClearQAM channels using the Aver Media Center software that the usb tuner stick came with. Unsatisfied by the software, I am trying to install Mediaportal.

After downloading an installing Mediaportal, I tried to add my capture card to the program, but got the error "No video capture card(s) were found, you won't be able to add a capture card."

After searching around the internet, it seems like you can add unsupported capture cards, but I can only find instructions for DVB type cards. I have a hybrid card that tunes NTSC, ATSC and QAM, and use it only for QAM purposes. Can someone walk me through the process of adding my QAM usb tuner stick?

Thanks!
:D

It's similar to the one for DVB cards.

1. run GraphEdit
2. select Insert Filter...
3. insert BDA Network Providers -> Microsoft ATSC Network Provider
4. insert BDA Receiver Component -> whatever yours is (and copy the filter moniker (in the box at the bottom) while you're here)
5. insert BDA Source Filters -> whatever yours is (and copy the filter moniker while you're here)
6. connect the ATSC Antenna Out to your BDA Source Filter
7. connect your BDA Source Filter to your BDA Receiver Compoenent,
8. right-click the MPEG2 Transport pin, and select "Render Pin"
9. look at the MPEG2 demultiplexer to find out which pins go to the video/audio decoder, etc. You'll need this to update the xml file later
10. update the capturecarddefinitions.xml with your card info - copy & paste from a similar card, then update the device strings and pin numbers to match your card
