    Hello everyone,

So I am trying to create a centralized Database so that when my wife watches something through Moving pictures or MP-TV series, the watched status will change regardless which computer she watches it on. And when I add new movies to the computer that acts as a server, the new movies and TV shows will appear on all of the computers.

    Central Database - MediaPortal Wiki

Since it says that I could really screw things up that I should make a backup of my database.

How do I do this? Is it just simply going to where the SQL files are and making a copy to store some where else? Is restoring just the reverse process?

    Thanks

    Steve

BTW the word Centralised in the web address isn't spelled correctly (the s should be a z). Maybe this is a different type of spelling? Not that for a web address it is really important, but it does look incorrect.

yes copy and paste the databases somewhere else as a backup

personally i dont like the way your about to try as can only have 1 mediaportal pc on at a time or you will likely end up with corrupt databases

you can almost do what you want without doing above, which i do on 4 mediaportal clients which can all run at the same time

Movpictures + follwit can sync the watch flags between multiple pcs no problem
TvSeries + tvdb watch flags / ratings can do the same thing - also upcoming follw.it support for tvseries will sync watch flags as well

setup 1 PC with UNC paths with Mov Pic and TvSeries, get them all configured the way you like, with follw it and tvdb watch flag settings etc, then copy those databases and thumbs directory to the other computers, and they should all stay in sync

FYI that is the correct spelling of Centralised, just not in the US

So if you want to add a movie later do you have to copy the databases (do you mean the sql files) and thumbs directory to all the computers each time you add a movie or will having follw.it do this?

I understand what a UNC path is, but I'm not sure when you say set up 1 PC with UNC paths what you mean. Do you mean that in the moving pictures and MP-TV Series I should have their watched folders have UNC paths instead of paths with letter drives?

I though that this might be the case. I am not great at spelling and I usually don't say much about it but I do like the letter Z a lot so I try to use it when ever I can :D

Thanks a bunch for the help

    hi

no, i dont copy the databases (the .db3 files) thumbs directory everytime i hadd something new, each client will just download its own data from the web. the watch flags will get synced from the websites to the clients.

the key to making this work well i guess is to make sure you label your movies and tv series correctly before they end up in your import path so you never need to intact with any of the mp clients to make changes, so every movie or series they download will be correct and match the other clients

yes you understand, in movpic and tvseries, for their watch folders, use UNC paths \\htpc\movies for example. so when you copy the db3 files to the other mp clients those paths are still valid.

in tvseries you need to enable "popup rate diagloue after watched" and "mark episodes as watched if rated online" and you will need to rate your tv shows when you watch them until follw.it support comes out. also for this process to work, you need to rate any series you want it to sync the watch flags (one off)
