i noticed this behaviour sometimes too from what i can gather the osd being shown is technically a "window" in mediaportal there is an option that keeps it always on top i found that unchecking this option resolved that for me.
from what i have read about the script it is supposed to go to the top so if you have windows or programs that stop the focus being taken away from them then the osd will not show.
i have this setup on a machine that is purely for mediaportal only so i have no need to use other windows.
sorry i cant be of more help but im not the developer of this script and what i know of the language is what i have learnt in the last week.
