How do I manually re-enable Windows Media Center Services? (1 Viewer)

For reasons of my own, I have felt obliged to uninstall MediaPortal.

During the install process, I used the utility that disabled WMC services.
Now, I've uninstalled without returning to that utility to re-enable WMC.

So as to avoid re-installing MediaPortal for the sole purpose of having it undo whatever it did, I would love to know how to manually recover the functionality of Windows Media Center.

What utility did you use to disable WMC services? I didn't notice that option when I installed MP1.
In fact, I'm running both WMC and MP1 services on my computer at the same time. Probably not a good idea, but... you know.
I did find this post you could try.

The MP installer disables the WMC services by policy. If you are running a Windows Pro version you can easily renable the services by deactivating the respective policy at

Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Media Center

    HTPCSourcer,
I've attached a screenshot of my 3rd Party Plugins screen. It shows my Windows Media Center services are running.
Does this mean that MP did not disable the Media Center Services upon installation?
Also, would this link be the appropriate one to follow if I wanted to reverse the change that MP makes when it disables the services?
    Thanks!

As far as I know the installer does not disable the services. I can't remember any option, and I also can't find any code that would do it automatically.
In other words, I would say the answer to your question is "yes".

No, that looks like something completely different to what MP does.
If you want to reverse the change then I'd recommend to use the section(s) in MediaPortal and TV Server Configuration. Those sections enable you to disable and re-enable the services. That way you can be sure you're actually reversing all changes.

Sorry, the posts came out in a strange order here because I made the mistake of responding while your post was still under moderation control.

This is probably the case. Since I always saw the "deactivated by policy" in my own setups after each install, I thought that this was by design.

For the rest, the thread is becoming a little bit confusing. I was merely answering to @Thomas Fischer , who was looking for ways to re-enable the WMC services.

Thank you - but please read the complete thread before posting;). The answer was given at the very beginning.
