How do you add your DVD/BR/HDDVD Collection? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I used MyFilms now for approximately one year and I like it but I want to find out how MovingPictures evolved in this time.
So I installed it on my testing machine and I'm curious how to manage my DVD/BR/HDDVD Collection with MovingPictures.

How do YOU do it?

Do you create dummy files for every DVD / BR / HDDVD you own?
Or do you use some kind of nfo file thing or something like that?

I'm looking forward to your answers.

I ripped every DVD & Blu-Ray I own onto a file server, name it based on IMDB, and let MovingPicures do its thing.
I also have a self written script to take any TV recordings that are films, convert them to MP4 and add them to MovingPictures.

Uses up lots of space, but easier than finding a DVD in boxes of 700.

Sounds like lots of work.

Why do you convert to mp4? Because of disk space reasons? I'm able to watch all ts recordings with Mediaportal without converting.

Do you have some special indicator how you find out if a recording is a movie?
I mean, not every single recording in MP is guaranteed to be a movie. It may also be a documentation or some silly show or test recording or what else. Because of this fact I created a new feature request in the forum ( https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/.../fr-categories-before-movie-recording-100598/ ) but perhaps there is a better solution.
