    Hello everyone,

I am interested in MP creating files of recorded TV shows that contain the series and episode information in the file name. After some searching and reading the Wiki, I came across in the TV server configuration section a menu called Recording. The second tab of this menu is called "Custom Paths and File Names". On this tab there is a drop down menu labeled Recording that can be changed from Movies to Series.

    1) If I want series information for my recorded TV shows to be incorporated into the file name should I set this on series?

    2) If I change this to series, what will happen if I record a movie?

    Thanks.

That dropdown does not select / set anything.
It is just a list of items for which you can change the recording format (independently).

Thanks for the info. I'm still a little confused, but tell me if this is correct.

Under recordings there are 2 "styles" 1)Movies and 2)Series.

If I tell media portal to record 1 item (it could be anything such as a 30 minutes TV series program, a 4 hours documentary film, a movie that is on a subscription channel like HBO) then it will use the Movie "style" and the format for naming the recorded output file will be that which is set in the format area for the "style" of a movie. This format also has a drop down menu which I can change and even use a User custom value.

Now if I tell media portal to record multiple items (e.g. I select an item on my EPG from within media portal, say "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart"and pick record every week at this time) then it will use the Series "style" and the format for naming the file will be that which is set for the series "style". The Format is listed under format which I can change as previous noted.

    Is this how it works?

If this is how it works, here is a tricky question. Since I use For The Record to schedule my recordings, and I use media portal to record stuff (not the argus recorder), which type of recording "style" will be used (Movie or Series) to name the files that are created?

Thanks for your help. I hope that my questions help those made/make media portal understand how someone who is not a computer person see the world :). Media Portal is truly a great thing.

    Yes you are completely correct.

I can not answer any questions about for the record, i only know how MP behaves. It is best to ask that question on the FTR forums.
