How to auto accept non-matched episodes? (1 Viewer)

Newbie alert - hope I don't stub my toe. Be gentle...

I have recently installed MP TV Series and am blown away by the coolness of the interface. The problem I have is that ithe importer matches very few episodes. In New Zealand, we seem to get few few details about the episodes in the EPG, and in many cases there are no distinguishing features between episodes in the file name - except for date aired. Date aired won't be much help because it wont match the date aired in online database anyway (we get everything about 3 months later...)

If I was to manually match these in the importer, the only way to do this would be to watch the episode first to figure out what it was called. That would rather defeat the purpose...

Ideally, I would just like to accept those episodes so that I can see them in mediaportal. I could live without the details of the episode, as they seem to match up with the series without any problem.

Is there a way to get them to import and display in MP, even if a match cannot be found? Or, am I just missing some huge point here..

Thx in advance

MP-TVSeries either needs Season/Episode info or an Airdate and it will attempt to then import that episode via a matchup with TheTVdB data. However if no match can be made, the episode normally will still import as-is, provided a match to show-name can be made (I forgot if any specific setting is needed to enable that behaviour, or if that is default).

So you just need to make sure that the filenames you add to the import path are at least parsed to the point where the title of the series is the correct one. You can otherwise use string replacements to fix that, or adjust the parsing expressions if needed.

On the other hand, you are definatly not the only NZ user, so perhaps somebody has a solution to your EPG problem. Are you sure you exhausted searching the forum for a solution? Not sure if any relate to your NZ-EPG situation, but I know there are quite a few threads that discuss EPG problems of this exact nature and solutions to fill in the missing data.

Give some filename examples otherwise of an episode that failed for you, that will make it easier to figure out a solution as well.

    1) To get better episode and series number data you could use XMLTV to import your EPG data instead of dvb epg.
The greatest grabber (for me it's the best at the moment) is WebGrab+

    2) Another possibility is the Episodescanner. This is a small tool which searches the episode / series number by the title for all series which will be recorded in the future. So it's possible to run it every night and all your schedules have the data (with a little bit of luck :p ).

At the beginning I always used the second possilbity ( episodescanner ) but sometimes it doesn't give you the correct data and you only have the data for scheduled programs.
At the moment I use WebGrab+ instead and I love it.

In germany we also have a lack of information in our dvb epg data. I don't know why but I suppose the tv stations are only to lazy. Poor bastards ;)

Thanks so much for your replies. I really appreciate it.

However if no match can be made, the episode normally will still import as-is, provided a match to show-name can be made (I forgot if any specific setting is needed to enable that behaviour, or if that is default).

This is the bit I am having trouble with. The files seem to parse OK, and the name of the show is identified - it groups them correctly according to the series name. However, it seems to require me to manyally match them to an episode. I can't find any configuration that lets me just import them as-is. I would be perfectly happy to have them imported as-is.

File names look something like this:

    06/01/2012 09:45 p.m. 6,427,059,932 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-06.ts
    06/01/2012 08:27 p.m. 1,193 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-06.xml

    13/01/2012 09:50 p.m. 6,114,004,776 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-13.ts
    13/01/2012 08:32 p.m. 1,237 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-13.xml

    27/01/2012 10:20 p.m. 6,353,667,928 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-27.ts
    27/01/2012 09:02 p.m. 1,232 The Graham Norton Show - 2012-01-27.xml

I am using XMLTV to import data collected by EPG Collector (geekzone.co.nz). I think the actual data comes from the NZ freeview provider. It took a while to set up, but EPG works fine for me. It contains all the data I need for general viewing. But I don't think it has episode number in the feed.

I'm not planning to tamper with my EPG unless it is absolutely necessary.

yea, theres no series and episode numbers in the NZ freeview feed

in my opinion anyway if you cant enrich those recorded episodes with series and episode numbers, it just nicer to leave them in Recordings IMHO, atleast then you keep the generated thumbnail image, episode title (sometimes) and episode description from the EPG when viewed from Recordings screen.
