How to close an emulator with the remote? (1 Viewer)

So we're all enjoying this lovely plugin, playing our good ol' games and having fun.
So do I.

But everytime I want to change a game, or stop playing I need to walk up to the keyboard and alt-F4.
And apart from the slightly annoying getting-up all the time.. it's the only reason I still have a keyboard connected to my mediaportal!

So, how can I make, say the blue button, do an alt-F4?
I tried IR-server suite, and it works fine, as long as I'm inside mediaportal (blue button closes MP).
I tried mapping 'q' for exit in zsnes, mapping 'q' to the blue button in MP (code 81 of anybody cares), and... the same problem. It works fine in MP, but as soon as I start a game (eg. zsnes starts) the button is useless.

So what's the clue here?

And in this case (zsnes) I can map a button to exit the emulator, but not all amulators can do this, how to go about with those emulators?

Cheers!

I think you need to use the translator program (a part of the IR server suite) to control anything outside of mediaportal. If you map the button there it should work no matter what program you are using.

EDIT: Also if you are using a gamepad you can set a button combo to kill a process with that. It is in the mediaportal config under Remote->Direct Input.

I should also say that I have not tried either of these methods, so I'm not sure if they work.

Have a look at Eventghost! You can program your remote-keys as you want!
I use it and its great and very easy. Be sure you get the latest version.
I think its like Girder but freeware.

I had problems with ZSnes too. Now im using Snes9X.

Can somebody show me how or send me to a tutorial on how to load a exe with the press of a button?

I tried everything, but it doesn't work.

I've created a exe that will automaticly close all my emulators. So if I can map a button to that exe I can close the emulator correctly.

i am using the hauppauge remote and changed the irremote.ini by adding each emulator (gens, snes9x, epsxe 1.7) to it and mapped alt+f4 to a key. works if i run the emus directly in windows but if i start them out of mediaportal epsxe will close but the process epsxe.exe is still running in the background. is there a possibility to kill the process aswell? (gens and snes9x also work within mediaportal)

i added this to the FAQ but still dont have svn write access so it hasnt been updated, but i'll post it here, hope it helps.

Q: How can I exit every emulator with the same key press?

A: You can go to this site which has a list of emulators
that have been modified to be closed with the same key
press (esc):

http://localarcade.com/screenshotarchive/downloads_emus.htm

Or you can get one of these programs to map key presses
to remotes/gamepads and set a button to Alt+F4 to close
emulators (although it does not work in every situation,
e.g. ePSXe wont save...):

JoyToKey (simplest)
http://www.oneswitch.org.uk/2/I/JoyToKey/JoyToKey.htm

Xpadder (has many options)
http://www.xpadder.com/

ControlMK (pretty simple)
http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html

AutoHotkey (uses scripts)
http://www.autohotkey.com/

HIP (main purpose is remotes, has small delay)
http://www.byremote.com.au/HIP/

Pinnacle Game Profiler (costs money)
http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com/

Total Game Control (costs money)
http://www.digitaltransforms.com/

Notes: ePSXe has to be closed with Esc. If it is closed
with Alt+F4 it won't save the game and the process will
still be running.

In ZSNES if you go into 'Misc' then 'Misc Keys' and click
'Exit' you can define it as one of your remote/gamepad
buttons or a custom key. The exit key for ZSNES only
works when a rom is loaded though, not when ZSNES is just
sitting idle.

This sounds like a really good solution to me. Could you tell me how you configurated everything and which programs I need to do this?
