here is my illustrated Guide how to disable the standard home screen (= classic home), if you want to use the basic home screen only. My solution is simple and fast, without modding/patching any MP components (like this solution). This solution does not disable the standard home screen, only redirects all the commands that call the standard home screen to the basic home screen.

Remember: MP 1.2 is going to support this feature natively. but untill then...

    this guide applies to:
    - MP 1.0-1.1.x
    - MP controlled by MCE-ir-Remote or keyboard shortcuts (keyboard or HID-based remotes that generate keystrokes for windows)
    - MP-Configuration used in expert mode
    - given file locations are for Windows 7 x86 (and Vista, XP is not supported ;-) in this guide)

    1. Problem:
there are 2 home screens: standard and basic. With keystroke "h" or "green button" of your remote you can toggle between them. They are different and can be customized separately (they can look very similar with different items, depending on used skin).

I know 2 types of MP users: the first (my wife) does not understand the concept and is confused, the second (me) understands it and is annoyed about it.

    2. Aim of this guide:
disable standard home screen, after setting up a desired basic home screen so you can press "h" or "green button" as many times as you want, you will get the basic home screen only.

    3. how to disable standard home screen for "h" keyboard shortcut:
MP accepts keyboard shortcuts and makes an action (see MP-Configuration>General>Keyboard shortcuts). E. g. pressing "h" calls the standard home screen and toggles between standard and basic home screens. These shortcuts are defined in the keymap.xml file (located in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal). They can be customized through the MP-Configuration>General>Keys and Sounds.

    see Screen01.jpg

We will remove the "h" command to stop MP toggling between the two homescreens and assign "h" exclusively to the basic home screen through the Shortcutter Plugin.

    1. backup your keymap.xml file
    2. install "shortcutter plugin" (simply copying the "shortcuter.dll" to Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\plugins\process)
    3. open MP-Configuration>General>Keys ans Sounds and select "TGB - Switch home" on the right pane under Global actions, press "delete" see screen02.jpg
    4. go to MP-Configuration>Plugins and enable "ShortCut'er" in the process plugins section. Press "Config". Type "basic home screen/h/35" respectively, as shown in the screenshot, press "update and close". see screen03.jpg and screen04.jpg
    5. go to MP-Configuration>General>Skin and check the "start with basic home screen" checkbox
    5. close MP-Configuration, you are done!

    4. how to disable standard home screen for the "green button" of your MCE-ir-Remote
The actions for a MCE-ir-Remote are configured and customizable in the MP-Configuration>Remote> section. The green button (called "start" in the mappings) has the action "Switch Home" assigned to it.

We will simply reassign the green button to the basic home screen.

    1. open MP-Configuration>Remote and enable "use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard"
    2. press "Mapping". this opens the Microsoft MCE configuration window.
    3. go to Microsoft MCE remote>Start>All Layers>No Condition and change "Action/Switch Home" to "Window/Second Home" as shown in the screenshot see screen05.jpg
    4. close MP-Configuration, you are done!

    5. how to disable standard home screen for other Remotes
you have to figure it out yourself similar to the MCE-Remote.
