How to force 5.1 out of 2 channel headphone jack? (1 Viewer)

Hi I'd liket some information on how to change the sound source for videos with DTS/5.1 sound.

I just bought some wireless headphones to allow me to watch some movies when my wife is sleeping.

unfortunately my sound receiver is shitty and doesn't have an alternate output for headphones so I opted for my PC's headphone output.

All works fine on 2 channel videos (they play out of spdif and headphone, i justh ave to turn off my receiver).

On the other hand, the 5.1 stuff don't play through the headphones, naturally they play out of the SPDIF.

I'd like to know if there is a change i can make in the audio renderer or codec to force it to play out of the headphone jack?

You can use AC3Filter and configure it to downmix the 5.1 audio. If you want to switch the settings passthrough and downmix, use my script Soundswitch.
