My computer is running Windows 10 Pro. I have installed MP2. Not sure what version.
I have a Hauppauge WinTV 1850 TV card installed. I have Comcast cable so there is a set top box.
I have been searching for hours to try to find information on how to configure the card.
How do I get MP2 configured so it can record using the above card?
Thank you for your help.

If you look on your Windows desktop, you should have a shortcut called something like MP2 TV Server Configuration. Click that to start the "TV Server Configuration" application.

Go to the panel where the TV tuners are listed. See this page in the MP Wiki. If the panel shows your tuners, select one and then scan for channels. There are various pages in the Wiki dealing with the different types of tuners that are supported; read the pages that are appropriate for your tuner types.

If the panel does not show your tuners, I think that you are out of luck, and won't be able to use MediaPortal to watch and record TV.

Please note that American TV is a bit different from TV elsewhere in the world, and sadly there is little knowledge of American TV tuners amongst the MP developers (who are mostly European). Perhaps an existing American MP user who is familiar with your setup will contribute some advice.

If MP2 doesn't support your TV card I think MP1 will support it.
I have MP1 working (watching and recording TV) with Hauppauge HVR-1955.

What signal source are you using? I looked at the specs for the 1850 card, and it seems to contain one analogue tuner and one digital tuner, and is able to receive over-the-air TV broadcasts using an antenna. I would expect MP1/2 to be able to receive those. But @cellsee6 mentions Comcast cable with a set-top-box, and I don't know how that relates to the tuner types supported by MP1/2.

I have Comcast cable with a set-top-box, I use the analogue tuner but I use to have the Comcast cable ATSC digital TV which worked with MP1 x86 on the Hauppauge HVR-1955.
I think the only way to tell for sure would be to try the card with MP1.
I have tried my card with MP2 and it is not supported.

MP2 uses the same TV engine as MP1, so it must work also with MP2, you just need to select TVE3 and not TVE3.5 in the installer. MP2 also supports a 3rd TV engine TVMosaic, but this is configured web-based and I can not tell you, if this works with your hardware.

I am still so very confused. I have installed Media Portal 2. I have Comcast set top box. Somehow codes need to be sent from Media Portal to the set top box so it will change channels . The only information I can find in the Wikki is:

    The information is not helpful.
Could someone please explain how to use a set top box with Media Portal. ge2301 seems to indicate Media Portal will work with a settop box. ge2301 mentions "MP2 uses the same TV engine as MP1, so it must work also with MP2, you just need to select TVE3 and not TVE3.5 in the installer"

    What is TVE3??
Where do I find information on how to configure a set top box to work with MP2?
Or do I have to uninstall MP2 and switch to MP1?

Sorry it is all explained in Wiki, also the different TV engines with illustrations.

Just download the latest MP2.5 installer in the download section, it can not be missed. During installation you can pick the TVE3 as tv engine. The complete installer is also part of the wiki and I linked it in the other thread.

For set top boxes I can not tell anything, because I have never seen or used one. A bit of reading in the forum with experience of other users is asked here. Others got it running, MP1 and MP2 use both TVE3, so it should not make a difference.

On top of that MP2 uses TVMosaic as alternative TV provider supporting more hardware. But please read the wiki at first, TV Mosaic is an external TV provider, that needs to be installed beside MP2. There is no manual "TV Mosaic with set top boxes", just a general manual and the configuration is intuitive.

I also have never used a set-top box with MP, but I think that you need to use an IR emitter (aka "IR blaster"). The IRSS software controls the emitter, and transmits IR signals under the direction of MP. The IR signal is received by the IR receiver within the set-top box, and so can be used to change channel and so on. The set-top box thinks that the IR signal originated from your IR remote control.

If you type the string IR emitter into the Amazon search box, you will find a selection of IR emitters, but I don't know which would work with your equipment. Some of the devices listed are IR repeaters, which are not what you want. To be honest, I think that you are facing quite a challenge, since no one here has any knowledge of IR emitters and set-top boxes. Good luck.
