How to handle FanArt when two movies have the same name? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

As the topic says, I have some movies where the movie title is the same. A couple of instances of this are 'Robin Hood' and 'Alice in Wonderland' where one is the old Disney movie and one is the latest live action versions. Whilst the DVD / Cover art is importing ok for each movie (I think) the fanart is always one or the other for both movies. Is there a way I can handle instances like this?

There is an existing enhancement issue for this @ Issue 268 - moving-pictures - Incorrect Cover-art with two different movies with same name - A movies plugin for the MediaPortal media center application. - Google Project Hosting

So you can 'star' the issue to stay informed and show developers that this is an important issue to fix.

In the meantime, you can fix this by using the IMDb+ scraper and add the movies to the rename system and give them a slightly different title. For example you can add "(I)" and "(II)" at the end of the title, or the year, etc. As long as the titles are different, the covers are able to show correctly for each movie.

Rochess is correct this is a known issue. Sorry about that.

The easiest work around is to simply save the correct backdrop to your hard drive somewhere then paste the full path to the "Backdrop Path" field in the Movie Manager.

I would not recommend switching to IMDb+, it will not inherently solve this issue. The script has some nice features and if you find those features interesting go for it, it's a great solution for someone wanting a bit more from their import script. But Rochess is suggesting the use of the script's auto rename feature to deal with this backdrop issue which would require some configuration on your part. It would be much more strait forward to just manually rename the movie in the Movie Manager, delete the existing artwork then restart Moving Pictures. If you wanted to go this route that is, even without the custom IMDb+ script its a bit of a convoluted way to set a different backdrop. Like I said above just download a new backdrop, save it somewhere, then paste the full path in the Movie manager.

I was looking at the IMDB+ for the rotten tomatoes scores. I don't have a problem with saving a backdrop and adding it in manually, theres only a handful of times I've come across the issue in 1000 movies.

I'd rather not rename the movie, will just add the backdrop in for now.
