How do you input text using your remote control

My media centre is on the other side of the room, attached to the TV. I don't have a keyboard for it, and wouldn't want one.

The other thread on this implied it wasn't supposed to be possible. I am a software developer - could I possibly write some kind of plug in? Where do I start?

There is a way to bring up a screen keyboard. But it is quite cumbersome to use.

Server data, e.g. the share setup, can be input from any client. Not much text input is required at client level. I can think of weather private key input.l, which is terribly long.

Can’t you just RDP to your client PC from a desktop/notebook to simplify things.

You need text input to search for a program by name, for example.

Right. However, doing this with the on-screen keyboard is IMHO a true pain in the neck. At my side I am using a small wireless keyboard for such purposes. Rare occasions for me, but that is of course subject to personal preferences.
