How to play Blue Ray? (1 Viewer)

I've been browsing around the forum and haven't been able to find clear instructions on what it takes to play Blue Ray disks in MediaPortal with Windows 7.
Can anybody please provide a "quick guide"?

Basically, MP will not play Blue Ray natively yet and according to the guys who are in the know (I am not one of these people ), it is not an easy task to achieve.

You have two options (that I know about):

1) Use the Multishortcut plugin to call up a third party player (such as PDVD), which you then use to play the disc. You can also configure the excellent Moving Pictures plugin (Advance Settings) to do the same. This way, when you select a Blue Ray film to play, it calls up your player. With both of these options, when you then quit the third party player, MP automatically returns to the screen. It is quite a neat solution and you get the maximum disc compatibility by using an external player. Depending upon your remote control, you should be able to set up your remote software such that it swaps profiles so the remote keys automatically map to the other player and back again (you need to map a Alt-F4 function to close the player to return to MP).

2) Use MP Blueray Handler . This option needs you to have an on-the-fly decrypter running on your system (e.g. AnyDVDHD or FabDVD (which is free in Beta at the moment)). With this option you don't get full Blueray integration, but a folder list of the playlists on the disc. Unfortunately I have a problem with my system not playing .m2ts files reliably, so I don't use this option and can't give you much advice on how good it is. However, many people are having good results with this from what I can see from the forum.

robbo100 is right, here is some more informations...

Using the solution number 2 you won't be able to get the subtitle off the BluRay, if you don't care about subtitle, then it's a good solution, you must have a fast enough machine to decode 25 mbits 1080p video though. Or you must have a video card that offer hardware acceleration along with a codec that offload the decoding. I love nVidia cards with CoreAVC codec. There's also DxVA codec, but I don't know much about DxVA.

Solution number 1 is like having a BluRay reader off the shelf of your nearest Wallmart...

None of the solution is as Integrated and reading a DVD in MP.

The structure of BluRay can't be read using a Directshow filter. Only proprietary software can do that for now, that's why you need PowerDVD 10. For the DVD there are filters that are able to render menu and allow actions like the real thing.

The solution number 2 call for a on the fly decrypter that only decrypt the disc, then using regular directshow codec you play the main feature of the DVD that is a m2ts file somewhere. No menu, No subtitle, No addons...

Only to add some information about current developments:

The developer of VideoLanClient have started to develop a library use the menu structure of blu rays, if this library becomes stable enough may be the devs of moving pictures, are able to add it to their plug-in, if this happens you only need an on the fly decrypter like MageMidns described to play standard BluRay structures with Media Portal.

Bummer about not being able to play blue ray disks in mediaportal!!! Is there any way to do it now?
