    Hi,

In their absolute wisdom my Satellite TV provider decided to pop up messages every once in a while. All these messages are Pay-Per-View ads. I have to press the exit button to dismiss the pop up to see the TV.

The problem is that I record most of the TV programs and at the time of watching the recordings I see the pop up blocking the screen. The solution to this problem would be to periodically (maybe once in 10 minutes) blast the "exit" IR command to the STB.

How can I possibly blast a particular IR code to the STB on a schedule using IRSS?

    Thanks,
    Srikanth

    Hi there

Looks like your biggest challenge would be to capture the correct "exit" command in an IR file. I am struggling to do that with my STB. But if you want to try:
    1. Open the IR File program on IRSS start menu grup
    2. Connect to server
    3. Learn command
    4. test the blasting back to STB
    5. if it works, save as "exit.ir"
    6. Go to directory c:\program files\ir server suite\irblast
    7. create batch file named exit.cmd
    8. edit it with notepad
    9. enter command: irblast.exe -server localhost "exit.ir"
    10. save and run to see that it works
    11. create scheduled windows task to run the exit.cmd file every day
    12. In advanced options of scheduled task, set the repeat on 10min for 24 hours

I was able to test with another command (channel number), but with the EXIT comand I was not able to get past point 4 above :(

If you succeed, you should rather use irblastnowindow.exe (not sure about spelling)

Wonderful! I will try it. My STB remote has a dedicated button for exiting the pop-up message. I have mapped it to pre-command and select commands in the STB setup. I have enabled pre-command and send-select command so that every time a channel is changed, it will blast the exit command first to close the pop-up messages.

Your solution is much better than my current workaround. I didn't know that IRSS could be run from command line with arguments. Simply gr8 news.

    Thanks,
    Srikanth

OT: BTW, are you guys in SA enjoying the IPL? Is it really catching the fancy of the South Africans as much as the TV commentators want us to believe?

Definitely enjoying it. Due to family circumstances, I can't get to the grounds, but watching as much as possible on TV :D
