Newbie evaluating MP2 on Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 before deciding to ditch Microsoft Media Center as part of an upgrade to Windows 10. Huge amounts of spare CPU, disk space and RAM at all times. Hauppage WinTV-HVR-2200 twin tuner card being used to receive UK Freeview OTA DVB.

I write this post with care because it seems such a dumb question - but I can't find the answer despite it doubtless applying to countless Users of MP2 who have trodden before me.

In short - Timeshifting is left at the MediaPortal 2 TV Configuration default settings but I cannot get it to work.

I would expect to be able to grab the live TV progress bar and slide it to the left whilst watching a flickering filmstrip that tells me what I will see if I release the progress bar to start watching again - but I cannot grab the bar. If I instead press the rewind button either on the screen or the remote control (ex Microsoft Media Center) the tv show rewinds a split second but no more. If I then give up and leave the TV show to continue playing, some minutes later it will enter an endless loop of a fraction of a second duration for each cycle. I have to kill and restart the MP2 Client to exit the loop.

What have I likely done wrong, please?

Use the left arrow key to step backwards in time, the steps increase as you press multiple times.
Use the right arrow key to step forwards.
You can change the size of the steps in the settings

Grabbing the progress bar is not supported as far as I know.

Thanks, mrj. That works, so I have my answer. :)

In parallel I worked out for myself that on the handset the curved left and right buttons (as opposed to << and >> or |<< and >>| that I was trying before) also work for timeshifting.

I am intrigued though why the on screen << and >> buttons do nothing during live TV but Stop, Pause and Play each works perfectly (and also why Shift-R is needed to record instead of there being a recording button along with the others on the screen) but that intrigue can wait for a later day to be solved!

What works:

Keyboard: Press the arrow keys whilst live TV is playing - No need to press Right Mouse Button first to bring up the button display (which is what I was originally doing)
Remote control handset: Press the left and right curved buttons that have OK between them (don't know how better to name them)
