OK, in my case I'm using Kodi on the client PCs. On those machines I went in to the PVR addon settings and enabled RTSP streaming. Now instead of the "can't find file..." error I got earlier I get the "pvr client has no rtsp support" error. I still have the TSReader streaming method selected. Regarding RTSP, the MP wiki says this:

Use RTSP streaming
The TSReader should use the Live555 library to read an RTSP stream instead of accessing the timeshift buffer file/recording file directly.
This requires the PVR addon to be recompiled and linked against Live555. This is not enabled for Frodo!!
Depends on: Streaming method=TSReader
Default value: false

Is my problem now the fact that the PVR addon must be recompiled, or is the fact that I don't have MP installed at all on the client resulting in a missing Live555 component? I'm using Kodi 15.2 fwiw. If recompilation is necessary, how would I do that? Or has it already been done and there is now an easy install option?

Thanks for your help - I feel like I'm getting close now.

...so that means you either have to:
    1. Add/fix RTSP support, OR...
    2. Tell TV Server to use a network share as the timeshift folder.
I can't help you with (1). If you want to go that route then best to ask on the KODI forum.

    Regarding (2)...
This should be easy if you know how to create a share. Once you've created the share, it should be possible to select it from TV Server configuration. In order to avoid Windows remapping the share back to "D:\" (or whatever), you have to select the share from within the network part. I still use XP and I'm sure 10 is different, but for me I would select My Network Places -> Entire Network -> Microsoft Windows Network -> <work group name> -> <PC name> -> <share>. If I select the same share directly under My Network Places then it will be remapped. I assume this is where you were failing earlier.

Is my problem now the fact that the PVR addon must be recompiled...
I assume so, but I don't really know. You're better to ask any KODI or KODI MP PVR plugin questions on the KODI forum.

...or is the fact that I don't have MP installed at all on the client resulting in a missing Live555 component?
Nope, it isn't that. The missing LIVE555 thing is entirely a KODI thing.

If recompilation is necessary, how would I do that? Or has it already been done and there is now an easy install option?
Again, pass. I don't know the answer, and these are questions for the KODI forum.

You are indeed getting close... :)

I tried adding it from within the network part, but once I pressed enter it showed back up as D:\Media. Now it didn't show up under "Network", but did show up under "Homegroup". Maybe there is a difference that I admittedly still don't understand between the two. But TV Server did show it under Homegroup, which I selected, but once entered it showed back up as D:. Maybe there is still a configuration option I'm lacking that would make it also show up under "Network" in addition to "Homegroup"?

As for now it looks like changing the TSstream option in the Kodi PVR to ffmpeg may have solved the problem. A quick check showed that I seem to be able to get the live TV now, so maybe that's the trick - I'll see if there are any gotchas with this new method over a longer trial period. I'd feel better with the TSReader option and the shared folder though, since that seems to be the default (preferred, even?) method, so any other ideas are welcome.

    Thanks for the help!

If there is, it wouldn't be a TV Server configuration option.
