How to view shared dvr-ms files....? (1 Viewer)

Hello all.. I have MP running on a Vista machine only used to play media, not record. There are no tuners installed in the system. In the other room I have an MCE2005 machine which does record. I have the folder containing the dvr-ms files on that machine shared over the network. I want to be able to access those files from the MP system.
I tried adding the shared folder into the videos... MP tries to open it, then just goes back to the videos selection menu. I can open these files from windows explorer and they will play in windows media player.
How can i set up MP to play them?

Is .dvr-ms configured as a movie extension? See MP Configuration; Movies; Movie Extensions.

If this is not your problem, you should attach your log files.

I've left that setting on defaults, and it looks as though the dvr-ms extension is in there by default.

Which log, where do I find it, what do I need to do to generate it?

If you used the default installation directory, the MediaPortal.log file will be located at C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Log.

I did not use the default install directory. I installed to E:\Programs\Media Portal

There are no logs present anywhere in that tree. Is there somewhere I need to enable the generation of a log?

Only setting that I am aware of is the log-level.
Open MP Configuration, click on general. Set the log level to debug.

Do a search on your system for the MediaPortal.log file.

The directory XML file was set up to generate logs in the default directory.. i changed it and now i can generate logs.

Also, when I tried to open the file in MP, the switched to the desktop for a splitsecond before returning to the file list in MP.

Edit: Just wanted to point out, you can easily find where it was unable to play the file. for searching purposes, i was trying to play an episode of "American Dad"

I don't think that there is anything wrong with your setup - there is an existing bug in the latest version of MediaPortal that prevents it from playing DVR-MS files ....

Is this still the case? I just installed it on my laptop and can't seem to play files from my Media Center box in the living room.
