It's been a while since i spend some technical time with my HTPC but after i reinstalled it today i've also update this topic to reflect some of the changes i did. I also came to the conclusion that upgrading to a Phenom (with the only goal in mind having better tv deinterlacing / post-processing for the IGP) was a bit overdone so i went for another solution.. buying a dedicated GFX card.. My choice is the ATI Radeon 4550 from Gigabyte (see the link in the TODO list) which will give me this also but costing me 30-50% of what a Phenom would cost. Another added bonus is that i have LPCM 7.1 sound over HDMI as a temporary "upgrade" untill i get the bitstream capable soundcard from Asus (XONAR 1.3 also see todolist for details). This all means ofcourse that i'll be leaving the 780G onboard stuff and have a little more power consumed but i think it's all worth it.

I also left Vista -64-bit again and went back to 32-bit.. the system ran fine most of the time but i would sometimes get weird permissions problems on reboot and it took me about 2-3 reboots again to get it working :( Now i'm back to Vista 32-bit and all is fine again.

Oke just installed the new videocard and i'm a happy camper. Deinterlacing isnt an issue anymore and I have 7.1 (LPCM) sound through HDMI for the time being. Didn't notice any other visual changes going from the IGP to the 4550 other than the effects of post-processing enhancements when watching TV. Playing progressive content is identical to me. I do however get the 512MB of ram back for my OS to use because i disabled the IGP completely.

If you were wondering why i bought this particular brand card out of all the other ati cards:

    1) it's passively cooled
    2) it has a native HDMI output - i don't like the dongle approach because i don't have room for something sticking out the back of the HTPC :)

    First impression = gooood ;)

Can you tell me how to setup post-processing for MP? I have a similar setup and would like to try this as well.
