Hello Taipan:
You got me thinking about the grounding of my satellite receiver. From there I remembered that my cable TV (Before I had satellite) was grounded to a copper pipe right where it entered the house. So I ran a ground wire from a wall socket ground to the coaxial satellite cable where it enters the house. The hum instantly disappeared!
Gee, such a simple solution, but I wouldn't have thought of it had you not started talking about a ground-loop.
