Ok, I installed PowerDVD8 and it works okay although I see a flickering at the top of the TV Screen with the Cyberlink activated in SD streams. But I'm still not getting any HW acceleration as the CPU ist still busy between 60 and 80%. The same with CoreAVC what is a software decoder only and doesn't support HW accell yet. I made sure HW accell is selected in the MP settings for the Cyberlink decoder.

Any idea why there is no accelleration with the board and the Cyberlink HD decoder?

Oh, and I'm still getting a blank screen with EVR activated. Cannot use it.

i hope the tip before works, thats what i have found about that issue:

it says: several forum's confirm that there are 2 major problems with the chipset of 780G.
all TFT run fine but not all plasma- or flat-tv will work fine with that chipset (whysoever)
and
sometimes there problems in decoding hd-material recieved via satelite or cable and that there is no combination of drivers wich is able to fix that atm.

hopefully they are wrong, wish you the best.

ps: that board is the next step of yours and uses the same chipset

No, not true. When tunign in to a free HD channel via SAT am only getting some distortion when I'm doing something else and CPU (like searching in EPG or scrollign through videos) usage steps up above 90%. But normal watching those channels is no problem with the CoreAVC or the Cyberlink decoder and CPU usage around 70%. Unfortunately the CPU fan becomes pretty noisy then.

With a motherboard based on the AMD 780G chipset there is an integrated Radeon HD3200 graphics card. That Radeon series has the UVD+ (video decoding) engine. See Wikipedia more info on UVD. Anyway, it has great support for decoding HD-encoded content. The only problem is that , as far as I know, only Cyberlink has a codec that supports this chipset. You need to have Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Ultra installed to get the necessary codec to do HW-accelerated decoding. Once that is installed you need to enable Radeon support somewhere in the settings for PowerDVD.

Using that codec I was able to watch a 1080p .ts-file using only 10% cpu when the CPU was running at 1GHz! Picture quality was about the same as with CoreAVC but it was totally smooth all the time.

Now, it seems a bit odd to me that it is necessary to buy a $100 piece of software to utilize the full potential of an $80 motherboard. In my opinion AMD should sell the necessary codecs themselves.

Can you be more specific what you mean by "enable the Radeon somewhere". I do have PowerDVD 8 Ultra installed and there is no acceleration so far. I checked the settings in MP but no luck. With EVR enabled I'm only getting blank video scrren.

After getting no description of how to activate it I spent a few hours until I found out by myself. After installing PowerDVD8 and selecting the decoders in MP one also have to make sure that HW Accell is also selected in the expert mode. Also under Visat I had to select EVR. But HW Accell will only work if one goes into the settings menu from PowerDVD where HW Accell for ATI can be set. After activating the 4450e has only a load of 10-20% max watching the Astra HD Demo channel.

From my point of view the picture quality seems to be less as the pic feels a little more blury. Yes it is smooth but a little too red and blury. Seems to be the Cyberlink decoder as without HW Accell the picture is the same. It becomes better when using another decoder (under SD).

I'd like to test this OpenSource decoder but it seems to be difficult to install it.
