I am totally new to this and need some help, I don’t get ffdshow working in MP.

I have a clean XP SP3 setup according to this guide:
GeneralUserGuides/Installation_WinXP_MediaPortal - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation
GeneralRequirements - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation

I have only installed codecs according to this page:
UserGuides/codecs_and_containers - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation
(ffdshow, Haali, VS filter, QT Lite, Real Alteranative, tried to install FLV Splitter but only got an errormessage)
and according to the Goose guide in the guide section on the same page. During the installation I had to select “Do not limit” as Media Portal was not on the list of applications. Configuration is also done according to the same guide.

Now when I try to play a DIVX movie either nothing works or I get a reboot. I also try to use ffdshow in post prosessing DVD but I don’t get any reactions. I have turned on ODC and only postprocess right half.

I have tried to reinstall all from scratch if I have messed up something but with same result. Any thoughts on what is wrong?

BTW: When I try playing the DIVX file in WMP11 under windows I immediately get a reboot.

Boy have you got problems, I would uninstall any codecs you have installed, then download and run filmerit from my signature to look for errors, you need to unlock the padlock to repair and select bug icon to see if there are any errors.

Are you using latest FFDShow Tryouts and have the relative codecs activated in ffdshow config\codecs, divx etc, right click on any codec format and select set all to stable formats.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have tried it and your software recognized a few erors but it was fixed.:)
The problems did however not get resolved.

WMV files play just fine both in MP and WMP11, but when trying to play a AVI file or a DVD I get an immediately reboot.

I don't know were to start looking. In an earlier atempt I had installed the divx codec and not ffdshow and then it all worked fine.

I do not know what to suggest for the best.

example, i have many films in various formats mp4, divx, xvid and wmv that i have converted over the years, in Vista i have to use the Vista codec pack (this will work on xp as well) to get all my files to play correctly, if i switch to XP sp3 (same pc dual boot) can use the miniscule cccp pack and that works 100%, but not on Vista

Might be worthwhile uninstalling and trying the latest Vista codec pack from here |MG| Vista Codec Package 4.7.2 Final

If not you may have a totally screwed xp install, even codecs should not cause a reboot, so may be a driver (video\Audio) that is not working correctly.
