IDEA: Central Cover art Site?? (1 Viewer)

I have a large webserver with dreamhost,
And Feel I should be using more of there space/BW

So Since it is so hard to find good cover art for this project, at the right width/height.
Or they come from IMDB with an angle or blah.

Who would be interested? I could setup an open ftp? or setup a web submit forum?

maybe a limit of 1.5MB per image?
And we set a width/height ratio that must be met?
english only? front profile only?

Let me know what you think. I may start the project myself alone if I have too.

yeah almost but i was really thinking something more simple then even that

Just the covers in image form under a DIR
no index ages none of that stuff, where If you need a cover you goto the page. scroll down to the letter and save it.
no logging in, searching etc.

You can use the XML interfaces on the site to return a cover

It would be pretty easy to write a plugin that searches for any movie you have in your DB. And download the cover for it.

For example this url

http://www.movie-xml.com/interfaces/getmoviecovers.php?id=364633

Will return the url of the cover for that movie. You can get the movie id by using the getmoviename.php interface.

Alternatively you can log into the website manually and search for a movie name.

Also there is another nice site called nicecovers

i'm looking at nice covers now, looks. nice!
but I'm unsure how to get a bigger version of the image? or is that the largest carried?

I would like to get all new covers but unsure how to right a script for it.

Everyone who is thinking to starting to serve DVD / movie (or any other) covers should remember that mst likely they are violating the copyright. I remember the times when even guitar tabulatures were on the firing line of the copyright "holders" and they are far less threat to the actualy income than copying DVDs
