i have screwed around enough with plugins, joy2key programs, and emulators and i believe that there is only one way to manage/navigate all of your roms, quickly and effectively. i do not know which program will do this, but if someone else does, PLEASE tell me.

the best way to manage all of the emulators and roms has to be via a frontend other than media portal. media portal is fine for what it does, but in the frontend GAMEEX, one can easily search, navigate, bookmark, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, EXIT ANY EMULATOR WITH JUST THE PRESS OF THE ESC KEY. i want a slim frontend that i can start from MP, and once inside be able to simply scroll through my roms from various systems, nes, sega, etc., start the game and exit any with just the press of esc on my MCE remote.

gameex does this, however, it is pretty fancy and a stripped down version would suffice. anyone know a program that does this?

personally ive found it perfect by using the "my programs" and i have to use HIP for my remote so i can set a global key on my remote to do Alt-F4 and (with the right settings!!) it jumps back to the menu list. ive even set the record button to save a state and play to load the last one through HIP.
I think you can run HIP on any remote, check it out, its in the repoistary somewhere
Theres a wiki guide on setting up all the different emulators to run this way. Ive got about 10 different emulators running through it and a load of pc games

i still would prefer something like mamewah to control all of my games, over the "my programs" plugin. but in either case, i still am having issues exiting. so for now i am interested in this HIP. i installed it, went through a little initial config, do you have any good tutorial sites, or info for me starting?

nah, had to plough through it myself
its pretty simple if you just stick to the emulating a keystroke but you can make it do quite a lot

quick guide
-add a program
-add value
-hit your remote buttton x2
-give it a decription
-primary command, click the paperlip?? icon
-record the keystrokes
-ok
NEXT...

TIP you can go through the main configure screen and set keys to act on the focussed screen (as above) but there is also preferences>alternate input, you can set global keys in here which dont matter which screen your in. took me weeks before i found it!!!!

Ill post my config file, it might help you as ive got a few emulators already set up
*rename from .txt to .hip

if you can shutdown with altf4 set that as a global key, else do what ive done and set it up as a program and set the exit key in there

one thing i forgot to ask, mame roms do not show up as anything other than the file name with the my programs plugin. i was interested in the my emulators plugin, but anyway, how are your mame roms named or how do they show up?

set up mamewah as a pc app to run from "my programs"
if you cant already, HIP will let you control mamewah when its running, shutdown mamewah. then your back to MP
Thats what i`d do

You know the answer to my problem?

i will play with it some more, but as of now, it gets my signal, but does not carryout the desired action. i have tried telling it to launch a program when i press a button, or do altF4, in moth cases, it made a noise, as if it got the signal, but did not respond. tips while i mess with it?
