Yes, i believe compression is neccessary when you get 200 - 300 DVD's

I use DVDshrink or decrypter (prefer first) and the encode to mp4 with Nero at file size 1.4gb.

tried both xvid and divx and on a large screen with action, neither were as good.

Thats forsure where I'm at. Before MP, I used to rip and burn right away. Didn't need to store them. Now that I'm getting into HTPC, I'm torn between making them small so I can fit alot, vs. keeping them in original state, so If I decide to burn them all I have the original "Source" if you will..

Paranoid,

Does Nero Recode reduce the blocking problems of Divx? and does it produce a normal AVI type file? I also appart from MP have a packard bell medi@TV unit which does AVI,WMV,DivX but not DVD :( don't know if it could play back a recode file? .mp4?

Thanks

not everyones as Lucky as me storage wise 1tb, but then also have most things backed up once converted.

On a single harddrive htpc, would be impractical without access to a server.

Still awaiting a 1tb hard disk to appear, seagete are at 750gb, so should not be to long a wait.

I am not attempting to win an argument with you.. So I won't continue to post at this point. Thanks for your opinion though!

    Cheers

Addition added: By the way I must be going blind, never did notice that compression bar! :)

Ah man.. I'm sorry - Didn't mean to come across like that. I don't want an argument. I guess it's my personality. :sorry: Some times things come across differently online.

    Cheers to you.. :)

    Klept,

No appology needed :) no offence was taken.

    Cheers to you too!

cannot keep up with these post speeds, had a beer you know.

I use FFDshow as .mp4 decoder within mediaportal, and never had any blockiness, processing may not be as quick a xvid/divx encoding, but nero also decides whether it needs 2nd pass (normally does not).
