Hi all,

Recently I have used Smirnuffs patch to globally listen to hid commands and it works great!

I have a Silverstone LC14M which comes with a number of keys right on the case, and a soundgraph imon vfd and remote.

I enable HID and click the "global" check box that smirnuff added and like magic I can play, pause, stop, and skip music tracks using the buttons on the case - even if MP is not the active application!

My only problem is with the imon remote software - I want the play, pause, stop, skip keys on my imon pad remote to send the hid app commands - but I can't seem to get it to do that. Does anyone have any experience with this? I tried to make a custom key, and selected "media function" play (instead of a keystroke) and all it does it send "=" signs over and over and over again (I can see this if I open notepad).

So the buttons on the case work, but the buttons on the remote don't work.

Does anyone know if girder can send appcommands? I don't really want to use girder but I guess I will if I have to.

Well.. I found out the Imons software does not send the proper "media key" commands.. but they are planning to fix this in there next release... just thought I'd give people an update.. who knows.. maybe there are people using Imon hardware and MP....

hey garthcoleman,

first: smirnuff's patch doesn't really have anything specifically to do with the Imon remote.

second: the "patch" is included in the feature release (.2.10) - it's the checkbox that says "global" in the HID section in the remote control section.

For me, I run the imon software and set it to startup to "keyboard mode" by default.. then right away you can use the remote to navigate through the menu with no setup in MP required. you can also setup default keys in MP as shortcuts.. so for example maybe 'x' will load "my pictures". then you can open the imon software and add a new application tab for "MP" and map the "My music" button on the remote to 'x'.

In Imons next release, you will be able to make the play, pause, stop buttons generate HID commands that MP listens to (if you enable it to do so) to play and stop music (so you don't have to map these functions to keyboard keys.

Smirnuffs patch will allow MP to receive these HID commands even if MP is not the active window! For example, if you launch a game from within MP, you would be able to control the music playing from MP in the background with your remote..

hope this helps to clear some things up..

Hey, I'm in the same boat (sort of). I want to use my Harmony 880 to play, pause etc with my SilverStone GD01. I've told iMon and MP that I have an MCE remote and programed the Harmony as one. The directional arrows and the Green Button work, but not any of the media buttons.

I haven't played with that too much yet. It works, but it is just displaying an RSS feed, not the MP details. Not that I care too much, the pc is behind the my seating area so I don't see it during playback anyway.
