Hello
I'm real new to MediaPortal... I only installed it last night. I'm trying to get all my series' imported but I am a little confused. I spent hours last night renaming all my episode files last night with TV Renamer and I am currently importing my shows using the MP Tv Series plugin right now. It has been going for about 2.5 hours and the green progress bar has been sitting at about the halfway point for a very long time. TV shows are still scrolling through and it is currently downloading metadata for each show. About how long does it take to import the shows? I have about 50 TV Shows, I am not sure exactly how many series' that is.

Also, what happens with episodes that did not parse correctly. I have one series that I did not think was listed on thetvdb.com, but after looking a little harder I notice that it is and if I change the filenames it should parse fine. Also, I did not know how to name special episodes so they have not parsed, but once again, I now know how to name them so they will parse. Once the importing has completed can I go back and parse/import the files that I missed the first time?

Also, what happens when you download new episodes of TV shows? Do they autoimatically get imported into MP TV Series or do you have to import them manually each time you download a new episode?

Thanks for your help guys!

New episodes are auto-imported. Infact everything eventually gets auto-imported if you just run the GUI with default settings.

The problem indeed is in making sure your filenames match up with the regular expressions used to locate your show on TheTVdB for a match. Specials are seen as Season 0, so you can match those up as such.

The only information required is the show name, season number and episode number. All the other information is obtained from TheTVdB and will be overwritten if you supply them (Episode Title, etc).

Instead of mass-renaming your local files, you can also use the String Replacement system.

The easiest way is to use the pre-import system to verify all your shows will be imported correctly, because you can see what MP-TVSeries recognizes before you run the actual import. Check the FAQ otherwise for easy how-to instructions.

Once you got it setup to work auto, then as long as you match it, everything will go fully automatic.

Any show that fails to auto-match you can correct via the configuration screen, but it should not be hard for you to keep up with a naming scheme that will remain functional without any interaction.

So if you download a file that has incorrect naming (eg. instead of The Ultimate Fighter it has TUF) you just rename it one you download it?

I hate manual work, so if the source is constantly using TUF, and you have no method inbetween to auto-rename correctly, then I would personally setup a 'String Replacement', that turns TUF into "The Ultimate Fighter" and never worry about it again
