Sinds the release of mp 1.3 is switched to windows 8. The change from windows xp to windows 7 was a big releave for me. It totally blew my mind how much smoother mediaportal runs on windows 7 compare to windows xp. My choice to switch to windows 8 was because of the really fast boot of windows 8.

But i still have some problems with windows 8. So, i'm really interested in how you guys are handeling your windows 8. What did you all do before windows 8 was running "fine"?

The following problems i have when converting to windows 8:
    - It seems that mediaportal can't be run at startup when you starting with the metro view. Everytime mediaportal is starting up behind the metro view. My solution was to install "classic shell". Next problem: now the metro view isn't working for me. And beside that, i really don't want to install "classic shell".
    - Windows 8 is really fast with booting up. But where Mediaportal is starting up right away in windows 7, i see the desktop for a few seconds in windows 8 before starting up mediaportal. Strangest thing is that i see other program's starting up before mediaportal (a few cmd scripts). i havent found any solution to this.

mbuzina's boot to desktop does work, but I found a little slow - adds perhaps 5 - 7 seconds to the boot time (or around 35%) as it sits on the metro view for a while. An easier solution is to spend a few $$££ on Start8 - as that allows very fast booting to desktop (totally misses metro) and then to MP.

If you are booting to desktop and then booting to a program, Personally, I think there will always be some delay - you cant boot straight to MP.

NB I am running an SSD for boot.

Windows starts MP directly with the desktop, the same as with all other applications. Without the desktop a desktop program can not run. So MP is loaded while the metro start screen is shown and a little later the script kicks in to show the desktop. There is no additional loading here (except a very small script). If you find a quicker solution, great. I don't care much for boot time anyway as my htpc is in sleep most of the time. That is quick as hell.
