hi, I am filling up all covers that have not been found by the importer. I am using google images to do this and noticed that nearly 100% of the times, the first movie that appears is correct.

Wouldnt it be a good idea to make google images an alternate source for the covers?

As there is the possibility of selecting a wrong cover, i would make it an option, and also the last resource in case all scrapers cant find a cover.

So if the option of using "google images" is enables, when importing, if no scraper finds a cover, then use the first cover found by google.

even a "logic" could be used to make sure that the image is probably a cover. if for example the picture is 300x300 most likely its not, if its 350x500 its more likely.

also when searching, its quite a guarrantee to use something like this...
    "movie name" poster

    what do you think?

    any chances of implementing it?

also, another nice addition would be to add a "paste url" button in "movie manager" section, instead of having to click the down arrow, paste url, hit ok.

    its a pain

A Google Images based cover scraper is a pretty good idea. And there already is a paste URL button in the Movie Manager. I think it is under a drop down button above the poster image.

the button is there, but not the "quick" functionality.

i was thinking of making a button which is direct, gets the url from the pastebin and applies it.

instead of the actual process of
    1. click down arrow
    2. click paste url button
    3. Cntrol + v to paste in text box
    4. click ok button

its ok, when you need to do one or two covers, but its a pain if you need to do a lot of them.

For the help of the entire community, it would also help if you submit these covers to TheMovieDb website. The whole community contribution part breaks down if we all use alternative methods. Now I've made some fanart covers and backdrops for personal movies, which I don't need to add to TheMovieDb site, but I presume in this case you are talking about actual movie covers.

yeah that would be the ideal thing.
but think about all users which want a quick and easy working solution. mp and movingpics need to be as complete and easy for new users.

more dedicated users as me can upload covers to that website, but a Google scraper is most certainly necesary to offer a step further in reference to other mediacenters.

its a matter of offering something that "simply works"

u have done outstanding work with other scrapers, hopefully you can take a chance at this one.

    thanks

I totally agree with this sentiment. In the past the impawards.com scraper has been our goto scraper for fuzzy matching when localized sources have failed. Currently the impawards scraper is partially broken though so cover retrieval is sub par right now, especially for non-english speaking users that can not take advantage of sources like themoviedb.org. We do have an update to fix this in the very near future though. Additionally the search feature on themoviedb.org has recently been improved so before long we will probably be adding fuzzy matching there as well that would work for both covers and backdrops regardless of where you pulled movie details from.

so, any chances someone can develop this scraper?

I can help with the testing and spanish integration (although it shouldnt be that complicated)
