Increasingly failing to play TV recordings. (1 Viewer)

Hi all.

Not been here for a long long time, but thats a good thing as I have had a long period of hassle free MP usage.

However over the past few weeks i have had more and more ts recordings fail to play. I initially thought that something about the recordings themselves may have changed, but whilst not all recordings are effected, some older, previously functional recordings are. I upgraded from 1.2.0 to 1.2.3 in this may replace any at fault files, but the problem remains.

The problem is manifested through all points i.e. tv, moving pictures, videos, my tv series. What happens is there is a[moments pause then either a very brief black screen, then a return to the previous, or after the pause the screen just blinks (so basically the same but faster)

I have had an - uneducated look at the logs, but there is nothing obvious aside from,

ok. I have a bit more information that i hope may help with a diagnosis. It "appears" to be HD content (specifically 1080) that causes the problem. As much as I would have said that other framesizes had been effected, a specific test of around 30 assorted recordings showed only the 1080 files to have failed.

Those continuity errors you have shown are because the signal is not getting processed cleanly.

More often than not these relate to bad signal issues. TV Tuner cards tend to be much less forgiving than standard TVs when it comes to signal strength and quality.

Are those recordings playable in something like VLC Player?

Accepted, however I did acknowledge more information 'may' be required, and can be provided. I hope I didn't give the impression that either I 'expect' a solution, or that I had provided everything required to assist with establishing one.

I must first be clear that you may well be right here, despite my following comments. That is to say I am not wishing to contradict, but just giving my findings to date.

The TS files are playable in VLC without exception. In addition I would say that MP has played files with horrendous signal errors before. Yes occasionally some have been so bad as to freeze, or drop out, but from a pure visual assesment, these files play - in the whole - perfectly in VLC, with no noticeable signal issues. That said, perhaps there are 'non visual' elements embedded into the signal that could be causing the problem. I would clarify though, that these TS files that do not play in MP are just not playing at all, not a minute or a few seconds. Nothing.

Anyway, I am at work at the mo, but will post logs in case anyone would be generous enough to have a gander (I can even video the effect if it helps) .

Bit of an update. No I havent posted the extra data as requested yet. I got home and cleared logs so I could generate pertinent ones, but when I went to play file..... it played !!!! However, there was no sound. As it turned out, I had accidentally set my output device to use the digital outputs after my last tidy up when I had been trying different video codecs. So, changing back to the direct sound device resulted in the same 'non playing' as before.

Rookie error then, as I 'assumed' it was a video codec or relate problem due to me 'seeing' nothing, wheras of course the failure to play means I am also hearing nothing. So as yet I have not posted any further logs as I am yet to try uninstalling / reinstralling my realtek drivers and tryijng different driver versions. It may not be this, but I find it odd it will play the video happily with the digital outputs selected (I can only 'assume' the audio is being generated in that instance as I have an analogue only amp).

Should I hit a brick wall I will post what I have tried along with system specs and logs. Unfortunately back at work so time to fiddle is limited.

A Little more tinkering later... and Wahaey.. Sorted it. Not that I know what was wrong as such, but after discovering LAV and MPC audio codecs worked, I installed an updated ffdshow which still didnt work. Then I went through and reset all the values where reset was an option, and hey presto, it worked. A little odd as I hadnt tampered with any settings for months (maybe a year even). No matter, back to being a happy bunny. Thanks to all who had a look in and were ready to assist.
