USB-UIRTs are still only about $25 and unlike the Hauppauge can control multiple tuners independently - important if I decide to actually get two HDPVRs. If you can, I recommend picking one up.

[QUOTE="ixian, post: 396705, member: 54932"] For anyone using a blaster to control their STB - give up on the Hauppauge one built in to the HDPVR. I was using it, even took on updating the TVServer plugin for it, before finally realizing how useless it was. Yesterday I found a USB-UIRT that I had bought in 2003 (I also found an IRMan serial IR receiver from 2000 which should tell you how long I've been screwing around with HTPC's :) ). I installed it, updated the driver for it, installed and configured IRServerSuite (works much better than the built in plugin) and....holy cow. Channel changes are lightning fast now. I'd say, after the initial tune which takes 10 seconds to set up as always, it's now as fast as it is on my Dish STB. What a difference from the one built in the HDPVR. USB-UIRTs are still only about $25 and unlike the Hauppauge can control multiple tuners independently - important if I decide to actually get two HDPVRs. If you can, I recommend picking one up.
