I used to use the Arcsoft drivers (and CoreAVC before that) with no slowdown issues. I've only recently switched to the PowerDVD ones, and that's more for quality reasons. The problem is there are just too many factors in play to say it's any one thing. I use 1.5.6 with no jitter issues, but I've worked through plenty of others. What resolution are you feeding your HDPVR from your STB? Is it the native resolution of the tv? Any upscaling that is done anywhere along the signal path could bring problems you normally wouldn't notice to light. For example, a lot of people seem to have problems using 1080i with Media Portal. Or it could be a lot of things. I have one tv server, and two clients, plus I run MP on my office PC from time to time. Out of the 4, one PC (in my living room) gave me constant trouble. Keep in mind it was the same hardware as 2 of the other PC's. I ended up reformatting it in a fit of rage one day, installed the Windows 7 RC (figuring if all else failed I'd switch to Media Center - I was that po'd :) ), installed 1.02, then installed SAF 3.47 and the PowerDVD 8 demo - no Arcsoft software, no other codecs. Now, of course, that client works perfectly, at 1080i (it's a 1080p set like the others), even using the Cyberlink Audio driver (which never worked for me before). I mean, it's smooth as silk. So who knows? Like I said, there are just so many things that can go wrong with this kind of home brew setup.
