I get into the same problem.

I have a new Vista 32bit SP1 machine (which has DirectX 10). I installed the DirectX 9c Nov Redist and Mediaportal 1.0; however I can't start MP (hanging with the "Initializing DirectX..." blue screen). Then, I installed the lateste SVN but I got the same error.

Here's the log:

Any idea what's wrong/how it can be fixed?

Thank you in advance!!

Hi,
I've got the same Problem. I changed the delay to 20 sec, with the same result. But when I press the "Windows"-Key and close the startupscreen. Mediaportal starts normally. How can I solve this? Really everything is working fine, except this "initialising direct x" - screen.

Thanks a lot!

OK, I got it! I opened Windows in safemode and replaced the quarz.dll in windows/systems32 and windows/system32/dll_cache
Now everything is fine. I hope this is helpful for others.

Hi!

I found the same problem and after disabling de "start in fullscreen mode", I could see what was happening.

Everytime I run Mediaportal, I get a little message windows telling me that my quartz.dll is too old and asking to install the patch from Microsfot: windowsxp-kb927544-x86-enu.exe. The problem is that such a patch is not in my language (spanish) and refuses to be installed in a different language OS. :(

I've searched in Microsoft´s website and there is not a spanish version of this patch.

After clicking cancel in the popup window, Mediaportal starts without problems, but is annoying.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I just ran into the same issue. I am not sure what is causing it, but adding a 20 second delay fixed it for me. This is still odd because I have never run into this issue before. If I don't have the delay I can open up task manager and kill mediaportal and I will be able to start it correctly after that. I have attached the log file it generated. I have updated all the system specs in my profile but am not sure how to get them to display.

Basically I am running Vista x64, 4gb ram, ATI 4350 8.12 Hotfix drivers if that helps.

Any more info on this problem would be great!

Finally I solved the problem by extracting "quartz.dll" and "qcap.dll" from the XP SP3 (in spanish), and copying them to the system32 folder.

I didn´t want to install the complete SP3 package, but that's another solution.

Hope this helps.

Fixed it! Well for me anyway,
was getting the freezing on directx splashscreen, this was on second display (lcd tv)
Tried numerous things, even loaded dot net 3.5sp1, (but didnt try evr directshow mode.)
was intermittent, sometimes it would freeze, sometimes it would start up ok.
- Note, this was a manual start of Mediaportal, not automatic on boot.

Finally actually looked properly at the options in MediaPortal configuration, clicked on General,
turned OFF 'Use Alternative fullscreen splashscreen'.
Works fine now! startup messages are on screen 1, then gui interface starts on screen 2.
I prefer this anyway.

Note, OS is Server 2003, which works fine, playback only.

i am also experiencing this problem but i have sp3 installed and i am not using the fullscreen splashscreen... also this is not on every start either... only happens sometimes when it wakes up to record... there is a delay of 20 seconds before tv tuner detected as well so by the time it starts initalising directx it should work.... anyone have any ideas?

Brilliant - Didn't think of that. I still get that stupid message but at least this time , I can press cancel without having to switch tabs during load.
