Repeated attempts at first install of get this error at an early stage.
No obvious clue what is causing it. It managed to install MS Vis C++ 2012 OK, but then grinds to an abrupt halt.
Any clues/pointers most welcome.
Thanks v much.

    Hello Mike,

welcome to the MediaPortal forum :).

The log says that the VC2008 SP1 x86 could not be installed:

I can't say why the package wil not get installed on your computer. In such cases manually downloading the software from Microsoft may help. You can find the download liks for the individual packages in our Wiki here.

    Please check if this helps.

    Hi, Thanks for getting back.

I have tried VC 2008 and get an error on that, looks like it may be due to me running 64bit Win 10?
    upload_2017-5-28_15-8-23.png

    I have installed VC 2010, VC2013 and VC 2015 (32 & 64 bit versions) from the links.
I assume I need all 4 VC redistributables, but is this correct ?

Also, manually installed Dorkan and DirectX9 from the MP2.1 install package cache. Dorkan shows in the programs list, but can’t see DirectX9 in Control Panel Programs, though the install completed OK.

I have .NET 3.5 and 4.6 running as well.

If I don’t need all the VCs.. then maybe I run the MP2.1 app from the package cache manually as well. Are there any other components I am missing ?

    Thanks for your help.

No, this has nothing to do with Win 10x64. You can (and in this case need to) install 32bit software on a 64bit system.
I don't know what is happening but could you give it another try with this version from here please? Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Yes, that's right.

but can’t see DirectX9 in Control Panel Programs, though the install completed OK.
That's normal. DirectX9 will not display among the installed software.

IAre there any other components I am missing ?
    Other than VC2008, no.

Well after a number of hours of digging and running CHKDSK, SFC and DISM (or trying to) I established that my Windows image was too broken so I started again with a rebuild.

Needless to say MP2.1 installed seamlessly first time on a clean OS. So thanks for your help.. without which I will probably have given up and me stuck without MP2 and with a ropey OS.

    All the best, Mike

Same issue here, same errors in the install log. Re-installing Windows is not really a solution. The above links (the one here and in the page referred to in the wiki) to the VC 2008 SP1 are no longer valid, looks like MS removed them.

    Any other suggestions?

This thread is 3 years old. Why do you try to install an old version of mediaportal?

Sigh, why would you just assume that? Installing the most recent version, 2.2.3. Exact same error.

Better question, why require the install of a decommissioned support package?

I assumed that, because you gave no information and the thread title is clearly related to MP2.1.
2.2.3 is not the most recent version, but 2.3. I recommend to install this version.

The VC 2008 SP1 is still offered by MS. The first result of a google search offers the link.
Older VC packages are partly necessary due to some dependencies.
