Install Of 2nd Seat Not Working (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Tonight I installed Mediaportal onto my laptop to use as a 2nd Seat and connect to the TV Server.

The laptop has XP installed on it (the TV Server is installed on a machine with Vista on it) and is a standard HP Compaq NC6400 with Intel Centriono Duo.

What I'm finding is that MediaPortal loads and gets as far as the "Startup Plugins" screen. I have disabled the full screen mode and got as far as the home screen, but it then freezes. The Mediaportal Configuration also freezes when you select OK to save settings. I have setup the host name ion the configuration and opened the ports.

I'm wondering if this machine is simply not grunty enough?

Can anybody give me any pointers?

Bit of an update - worked out that if I disable my wireless and LAN connections, Mediaportal comes up as normal, however when I try and connect to TV Server, I get a message to check firewall settings - as mentioned previously, these are all setup correctly from what I can see.

Could it be something on the TV Server end? I'm running AVast antivirus - could it be something to do with that?

Would be great to get some bullet points of obvious checks from someone who has this working - obviously something to do with the connection back to the TV Server.

Any help appreciated.

last time i installed mp i noticed i had to reboot. maybe try that.

but logs are needed always.

Upgrading from 1.0.2 to 1.1.0 RC1 caused me issues as the streaming sever did not recognise my existing clients.

My server has a static ip address assigned to it, and under the RTSP streaming server tab on the configuration there were two settings... auto and the ip address. I changed it to the ip address and rebooted.

No further connection problems.

I also recall turning off the windows firewall on all machines in fault finding. After having a little play with it again just now I have discovered the the firewall on my server can prevent streaming to the clients despite having mediaportal (server and ms sql) as exceptions.

The firewall on the client I am currently using (and watching tv) does not seem to have an affect. However, when turning it on/off on the server I loose streaming to my client.

Tried re-booting - no good. I canot see any log file on the 2nd seat machine?

Hi Ausdigital,

I have turned the firewalls off on both machines and still get asked to check the firewall settings when I go into TV on the 2nd seat machine.

I have managed to share the TV Server machine drives with the 2nd seat machine OK and can browse the folders through windows explorer, so that's working OK. When connected to the LAN, my machine seems to freeze up on the "Starting Windows Plugins: screen when I execute MP? This is both wireless and cable connected. When I disconnect from the router, the TV client starts up as normal.

There has to be something simple I have missed.

Can anybody help??

Have you set the server up with a static ip address and used that in the RTSP server configuration?

The default may be "auto". Mine wouldn't stream video in this configuration but I could access my pictures and music from memory.

Hi,

When you say the RTSP server configuration, I take it that you mean the setting under "TV Servers" where it gives you an option to choose and IP address for streaming? Correct?.

Graham,

Its the TV Server Configuration then select the Streaming Server Tab down the left hand side.

IP Address used by the server for RTSP streaming:

auto

Once you have setup a static ip address for your server, change the setting above to reflect that ip address and reboot the computer. once the MP server starts up again, check that your 2nd seat can connect to the tv

That's initially where I looked and everything is blank i.e. there isn't even an auto option?? I cannot see any options to add anything in that tab? Is this because I installed MP initially on that machine as a "single seat"? Do I need to install MP again with other options so I get then get streaming options to setup the 2nd seat machine?

Reinstall it as the server on the network. That may have been you whole problem all along.
