Install Of 2nd Seat Not Working (3 Viewers)

Hi,

A couple of things:

- the PC I'm using is setup to connect to Citrix at work and at home - not sure if that may affect how it is behaving?? Could this be the external address you are referring to?
- I have a Netgear wireless router I'm using for the network. It has DHCP enabled (which I understand assigns an IP in order as computers logon) This is why I'm thinking the PC Name "PerkysPC"is the best so it resolves the IP Address given - correct??
- I have been able to open the firewalls on both machines and share folders in the TV Server machine with the client machine through the network - would that indicate that the machines are talking together OK? If so, is the issue more centred around MediaPortal setup??
- When I execute the MP Client connected to the router, it hangs, but as soon as I disconnect, it frees up and boots up OK - but no streaming

.... it outlines setting up single seat on the TV Server machine (about half way down) so I don't think it's the issue? He also mentions reserving the IP Address for the TV Server machine which is what I have just done.

As your article states:

configure TV Server to nominate an IP address for streaming. That IP address should simply be the IP address of the PC. When you make this selection (which sould be available via a pull down list) the TV Server name will change from the Host name of your PC to it's allocated IP address. I strongly recommend you configure your router to reserve this IP address as a permanent value for the nominated PC, so that it never changes.


Next, for each MediaPortal client, configure the client to address the Host Name (not the IP address) as the location of the TV Server, and you should be golden.

I see he did what you did with the single seat option. This wasn't my choice as I opted for Select 2 the dedicated master install. But my server has a FIXED ip address and the firewall disabled. The clients have ip addresses via DHCP and they all work.

maybe due to your citrix client, it could be worth opening the cmd prompt and doing a release/renew on the ip address. Everything behind your netgear router should have an internal 192.168 number. Only the modem/router needs the external address of your isp.

Hi,

Have been trying some other things:

- logging on as administrator - no joy
- did a netstat -a -n and can see the RTSP Streaming port is listening 554- did not see the TCP TV Server port listening though? 1433
- pinged PERKYSPC and associated IP Address OK

....... but then ........

read some forums and added the hostname and ip address to the hosts file ..... and presto - I got into the TV Server .... eventually ...

..... it seems to be running very slow and I'm unable to open any recordings sucessfully ...

... so onto the next problem!!!

Wonder if that is why you have to define your IP Address instead of the hostname??

Are you able to suggest anything I need to look at to get live TV and recordings? I notice my client machine is not coming up in the "streaming server" tab??

UPDATE: Got it working!! .... but a blank picture with sound .... any ideas??

Another update - managed to get Juice TV working fully, but blank screen for all the rest? I'm thinking Codecs? Anything else someone can think of?

blank picture with sound could be lack of video codec. there is a post about mp 1.1. RC1 having video render problems. i suggest changing video codec to one installed on your pc. if you have dvd playing software, select that codec and see how it goes.

In most of the cases, re-insatallation of software will solve the problem. After that restart your system.

Got it working in the end. The machine I installed the software on was XP ...... had to think back a while and then it dawned on me ...... the host file!! I needed to specify my machine name and ip address!!

Hi All,

A bit of an update on this.

I managed to get the 2nd Seat working OK on my laptop by including the IP Address and Computer Name in the hosts file - the machine had XP loaded onto it.

I now have the same machine with Vista Ultimate on it and same Windows Firewall exceptions except I have the new MP Version 1.1.0 Final.

Would this affect the ability to stream as the server has version 1.0.2 (struggling to get near it to upgrade at the moment!!
