Installation failure (1 Viewer)

I cant seem to get media portal to install on my computer. I am running XP service pack 3 and it is 32 bit. The first install, I cancelled. Then i have deleted it from the control panel and try to reinstall. I get to the point of Mysql express 2005 and it will not install. I think I just haven't deleted everything but I'm not sure. in control panel there is 3 things that read 1)Microsoft sql server native client 2) Microsoft sql server setup support Files (english) 3)Microsoft sql server vss writer. Dont want to get rid of them if they are important or are they the reasons I can't install. If it's things i need to delete to do a new install could someone tell me everything that has to go and where I could find that. If its something else any help would be appriciated. I don't know if this helps but I want mediaportal to be a dvr that plays my music and video files. Also maybe netflix if possible. I have an hauppauger wintv-hvr 1600 tv tuner.

When it gets to mysql, what error message comes up?

no number or anything. It just gives me a cannot install mysql express 2005 and an okay button. When I hit the ok button installation disappears

Ok. Uninstall SQL and then run the MP installer again.

Ok, so this is the exact wording: Failed to install application (MS SQL Express 2005)

I don't think I deleted any SQL files but after restarting my computer i get this erro

SQLDhymper Library failed initialization. Your installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with. Please uninstalll then re run setup to correct this problem.

So my question is before I delete anything is what SQL file to delete from the ones in the Control Panel add and remove files:

1)Microsoft sql server native client
2) Microsoft sql server setup support Files (english)
3)Microsoft sql server vss writer

I'm assuming all three. Also do I send the Microsoft SQL Server folder that is in my program files folder to the recycling bin too.

Sorry just don't want to screw anything up. I just don't want to have to do an image restore to hook this up. Thanks for your help.

Run the installer on them and delete the folder if you wish. You will be reinstalling anyway so deleting folders related to SQL wont break anything.

i went to control panel and deleted every thing with mysql in it. And also mediaportal. Went to reinstall and the same error message. Failed to install application.

What stage of the install does this error come up?

Always when installing MS SQL Express 2005. Its downloaded but goes to install and i get the failure message
