installation problem with Windows 8 and NET (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to install MediaPortal and am getting the following error message when trying to start the installer:

MediaPortal Unpacker Setup

Some components are missing on your system to install MediaPortal. Please install the following components:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
Installation will be canceled.

The error message occurs whether I use the MediaPortal 1.3.0 or 1.4.0 installer. But I have Windows 8 which has NET 4.0 built-in.

Edit: it seems I still have to install NET 3.5 anyway even with Windows 8. After NET 3.5 is installed the MediaPortal installer will run.
