Hi,

First time install and tried from basically a clean XP.

When Medial Portal goes to start up it comes up with
"Microsoft VMR9 Handler outdated....."

I found another thread regarding this error and followed the steps for dvbfix and filmerit. Still no go.

I basically followed the installation guide for all the necessary components to add in but I have probably missed something so hopefully someone can give me a tip from the logs attached.

I think it might be something to do with the SQL server as when I accept the initial error it lets me into Media Portal. I then try and go to My TV but it asks to specify and IP Address or Host name.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

    I've the same problem:
Your version 6.5.2600.2905 of quartz.dll has too many bugs! (Just the last, signed number is a different).

I tried to install dvbfix. ... installed with no errors. -> the same problem as before. :(
Searched in the web -> found Hotfix from Microsoft (KB919071) -> installed -> the same problem... won't work :(

What can I do? Or could it help to reinstall Windows XP (Professionel) (actually it don't runs very well ;) - it's about 2 Years old...)

Hope that someone can help me,
    katze_sonne

i ve tried this one : WindowsXP-KB951698-x86-FRA.exe and everything is ok with it.

it's the french version so you've got to find the patch for your country,

    hope it helps !!!

I tried searching Microsoft for KB-951698-X86 and found nothing in English. Searching all languages found the French article. I then searched Downloads for "VMR9" and found an article related to VISTA. Sounds like MP-RC2 will not run on XP!!

i'm running on windows XP SP2 No update was done.
i've installed the dvB patch (but if failed because no WMP11)and the message VMR9 Handle appears when MP Starts...
I then Installed WMP11 + dvB patch (installation ok) , and the message still appears ...
Then i installed this hotfix--> WindowsXP-KB951698-x86-FRA.exe (quartz.dll) and everything run fine...

The best solution i think if nothing work is to install all the Hotfix...:(

    Good luck.

Sorry guys, I pointed you to the wrong info

quartz.dll has to do with video playback and is not related to dvbfix.

As you can see from our Wiki page - General requirements: the correct hotfix to download is KB927544.

Remember that reading the wiki usually save al lot of times and tests ;)

I downloaded windowsxp-kb927544-x86-enu.exe. Upon execution the message "not a valid win32 program' appears. What next?

    Hi Aged

Not sure if it helps but I had this issue and the hot fix prob - had to re boot pc and re download the hot fix and all worked fine !

It then opened a can of worms (see my posts ) but hot fix worked ok. Seems we have similar build and case etc so it may be worth looking at my thread as I have now resolved my issues and all is fine. Basically it appears that there are two methods of updating from 0.2.3.0 to 1.0000 - I too run xp sp2 and only the later one worked for me.

I have not updated quartz as I know nowt about it (see my post) but the fresh and full install of 1.00 RC2 appears to have cleared my problems up. I also ran a package called registry mechanic after removing the installs of MP which totally removed all mp associated stuff and the reinstalled - no error message since touch wood !!!

    Marcus

sorry omitted to add that I have made several posts over the past few days all of which started when I tried to update MP and got the VMR9 error so dont just read the post in this section as it may be confusing - search by my name fopr the past week as I have posted several probs in several sections

Hope you get this sorted - stick with it there are some great folks on these forums who have never not been able to resolve things, stick with it and give as much info as possible as each install/machine is different - you will get there eventually and find that the new MP rocks and shows MCED for what it really is.

    :)

Ran into the same problem as mentioned. Tried the dvbfix first without success, and then I installed windowsxp-kb927544-x86-enu.exe. Now everything works like a charm ;D

    thanks!
