    MediaPortal Version: 1.7.1

    Description
I'm trying to install MediaPortal on my development machine, and that's a clean Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 install with Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 RC.

It'll present me with the following error, although the System components section of the System requirements states that it is not required.
(sidenote; a little label error "..wich will is opened now.")

    Workaround
Obviously, install .NET 3.5, or activate it (see post below) :)

    Steps to Reproduce:
Clean system install of Windows 8.1, install only .NET 4.X and start the MP installer.

As far as I know there is no need to install .NET 3.5 on Win8 seperatly. You just need to activate it. See:

You can also enable the .NET Framework 3.5 yourself through Control Panel. In Control Panel, choose Programs and Features, choose Turn Windows features on or off, and then select the .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) check box.

Hmmm, yes... but I think the requirements could be clarified. .NET 3.5 is required. Whether you have to "install" or "activate" it, you can't run MP without it. Only a short additional comment would help to remove all uncertainty.

    From the release news:
That is accurate, but I'd imagine most people go to our requirements page when they want to know what the requirements are.

I wonder whether it is possible for the deploy tool to automatically enable the feature by executing:
    DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /ALL /NoRestart

    @high
Who is able to edit the requirements page? Would it be possible to add some detail for the .NET 3.5 (system requirement section)?
    Maybe something like:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
    • for Windows 7 and newer, enable .NET 3.5 in control panel as described here [need a link to a good tutorial with screenshots]
    • for Windows Vista and older, download and install .NET 3.5 from here

DISM would indeed be a nice way to enable this, but you'll either need a working internet connection (i think we can assume that's available) or the Win 8 ISO.

    ** EDIT **
DISM seems to work on my VM:
