Hello all,

Bit of a curious question: Does anyone know if you can have more that one instance of Moving Pictures installed into Mediaportal?

The reason I ask is because I have a fair few short films that I would like to keep separate from my movies and since there doesn't appear to be a plugin foe them (and moving pictures is awesome anyway) I would like to have a second version running for them specifically. since you can rename menus and databases, I can't see why you shouldn't be able to have one up and running called "movies" and another called "shorts"?

Any advice / help would be greatly appreciated, thanks very much.

This is not possible because of the way Moving Pictures is coded. This gets a bit technical but we have a central static class that provides various services to other components of the plugin. It sort of acts as the main conduit through which all other components communicate. The problem with multiple setups is there is only one central coordinator class. If you had two installs they would sort of get their signals crossed.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. That said with some skins (like StreamedMP) it is possible to launch from basic home directly to a menu category. So if you setup one category for movies and another for shorts and setup special links for each (rather than a single normal link to Moving Pictures) you might be able to get the kind of behavior you are looking for with a single Moving Pictures install. If this is something you are interested I can give you some pointers to save you some time.

Thanks for the response, fford.

Thats a shame that it can't be done, however your solution seems like a great alternative. Assuming it works the way I imagine it?

I do use the StreamedMP skin so that one obstical I don't need to worry about. I'd really appreciate any advice you could provide.

Thanks once again.
