For those that may be having trouble... I did have trouble 2 but if it was down to the fact that I was trying to run the installer but if you read paul's info it says to use the "package-mediaportal.exe" and after a bit of looking I found that if you start the installer the first thing it does is extract files to your "default temp file directory"\MediaPortal Installation\deploy.

If you run the installer till the first screen comes up then close it.
Search for the file "package-mediaportal.exe" and then follow pauls instruction on it. :)

Worked for me. (Oh it will complain every time you run the config but just accept it and then continue)

Good luck!

Regards,

Zas

P.S. :D Paul

Any idea what version of the Application Compatibility Toolkit you were using?

I've downloaded Microsoft ACT 5.0 (which is where the links in this thread currently point), however it errors out just before finishing the installation, and the readme AND FAQ available at the page indicate that the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit v5.0 is NOT supported on 64 bit versions of Windows. I've searched the microsoft site for an older version with no luck.

Obviously if I can't install the toolkit I can't finish the instructions for completing this install. Can anyone provide a link to a microsoft page (or rapidshare or similar sharing service) for downloading an older version of ACT, perhaps 4.x? Or any suggestions for getting 5.0 to install instead.

I am running 5.0 with no problems. I did have issues during installation, but getting the .NET Microsoft Updates (from Windows Updates) solved that quickly.

I was thinking it might be something .net related, so I already started updates on that. Just waiting for it to finish, and I'll try again.

    Edit:
Still getting the same error on ACT 5.0 installation:

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

The exact version of the Application Compatibility Toolkit that I was able to download is 5.0.5428.1080. I've tried downloading it again to verify it wasn't corrupted on download, though really with a digital signature (which becomes invalid if the file is modified) there wasn't much chance of that. The error occurs right at the end of "copying new files" when it looks like it's about to complete successfully.
