Re: *New* Intelligent Frame Correction - PlugIn

The only thing I can't seem to get the plugin to do is to fully crop 4:3 letterbox embedded in 16:9 (black bars all around)

A lot of the channels I get are broadcast this way, SD over digital HD transmission which was cropped for wide screen. (so annoying)
This results in a black bar on both sides and top and bottom.

after reading through this monster thread, it seems that once the plugin decides the video is 4:3 embedded in 16:9, it crops the L/R black bars and thinks it is done, and never even checks for top/bottom bars.

I would like all 4:3 content cropped and use NLStretch (working flawless already)
But for 4:3 letterbox (Embedded in a 16:9 file) I would like to crop and zoom.

Could we expect a version that will allow for scanning for 4:3 letterbox embedded in 16:9?

You could go about this (in at least) 2 ways:

1.) Scan for top bars and crop them as well, if present.
    or
2.) Use the plugins logic to determine if the embedded 4:3 content is letterbox, if it is, use a separate '4:3 letterbox in 16:9' zoom mode.

Thanks again for this wonderful plugin, an absolute MUST HAVE.

    Anyone?
    Sorry for the delay.

Yes you are right, 4:3 embedded in 16:9 crops only L/R Bars. I never saw 4:3 Letterbox embedded in 16:9 material. So I consider this behavior in the next version. Could you please send me though a screen shot :D

DreadFury: I'm i right that you are using a 4:3 setup? That's why i think you see letterbox 16:9 video. If you use a 16:9 setup the left and right borders remain and you can use the plugin as designed.

Martin: This supposed to be an easy plugin, with all the adaptions it becomes to complicated.

Sure thing, and no problem about delays, I just wanted to make sure that the request was actually seen over the chaos of the Holidays. =)
I will grab a few screenshots for you.

No, I am using a 16:9 widescreen TV and a 16:9 projector. (as well as a few computers/laptops, all widescreen)

The reason it does this is because my cable company broadcasts the video (through my STB) in 480/720/1080p for a lot of channels, even if they are SD.
This works fine usually, however, if the original broadcast was sent to the provider in 4:3 letterbox (16:9 inside 4:3), the cable company simply broadcasts THIS in 16:9.

    This gives you a (rather annoying) 16:9 picture, inside a 4:3 picture, inside a 16:9 picture... ><
The end result is huge black bars ALL AROUND the actual picture.

This is kind of common in the USA, and is mainly caused by the STB setup. (Broadcasts I watch using my analog internal card only show 4:3 and letterbox)

The last thing I want is the plugin to become overly complicated, but I think this should be an easy fix and shouldn't do anything to over-complicate the plugin.

Here are a couple of examples.

    4:3 letterbox (both 16:9 and 16:10) embedded inside 16:9

    Hi Matt,

happy new year to you too.

Best way to install this plugin is right click and choose open with... and then select MPInstaller.

You said before you had the same issue I had.

Are you saying you were mistaken and did not have this issue?
Or, are you saying you figured out a way to make it crop correctly using the plugin as-is?

    Thanks!

I actually don't know what happend. I had some channels on my dvb-t tuner that showed up like yours did. And I installed this plugin and set it up like I thought was correct.. but without really knowing what I was doing hehe. Then started mp, and all my standard 3:3 got stretched as I wanted and all is good, but when changing to the dvb-t channes that looked like yours, nothing happend. So I reinstalled the plugin and changed no settings and all is good now ;) hehe so probably not the same thing going on, just looked the same probably

Ahhh, thanks for the heads up.
I'm glad you got it working for you!

I guess I am back to waiting for the new test version. =)
